What will uk#1fan do if Simon Kenton loses to Ryle on Friday?

Best athlete in NKY History that you remember, Not best player just Athlete?
I am going to go off the board here and suggest that Greg McGraw from HHS '08 was an exceptional HS athlete that unfortunately was saddled with injuries throughout.......worth the price of admission to see him play!

Which team more likely to continue State Championship run HHS or Ft Campbell?
Regardless, five or six consecutive in a four-class system is more impressive than 8-10 in a six class ststem.... don't ya think? Again, my inclination was that maybe a Beechwood/Mayfield would have the best chance because their class will not change as much (only a few teams dropping down occasionally) whereas the "middle-classes" fluctuate more as evidenced by former champions (under 6-class system) Boyle, LexCath, HHS all being now in the same class and may change again in the next realignment?

Which team more likely to continue State Championship run HHS or Ft Campbell?
I am not a fan of the six class system and predicted that there would be frequent repeat winners with "diluted" competition over six classes. True to form (with the exception of 4A), only a couple of teams have appeared in the finals in each class with Highlands 5A and Ft. Campbell2A winning all three years and Beechwood 1A, Central 3A and Trinity 6A all winning two out of three. I would have guessed the smaller classes, particularly 1A to be most likely to have one team dominate. Questions: Which team last longer HHS or Ft Campbell and what year does it end for each? With realignment, who (of all six classes) wins the most over the next five years?

Is it time for only 2 teams per district to the playoffs again?

9th Region Greatest of all time?
The three definites for me would be Beal, Schloemer & Draud........after that it gets tougher. The Mr. Basketball Award for Neltner would definitely put him in top ten (although Brock & Doellman were equally accomplished). Can't go back past mid-seventies but more recent candidates would be Ricardo Johnson, Derek Smith (their accomplishments in State Tourneys say enough) & Jack Jennings for sure. After that.....too close to call for me. Couple of thoughts....for the Derek Smith neysayers think about the idea that he was Mr. Basketball runner-up after finishing a football season as the Mr. Football runner-up! IMO if 9th region is being compared with statewide...Draud, Beal and maybe Neltner would have a chance.

Ryle 28 Highlands 26
What a ballgame !..................I enjoyed watching two very good football teams leave it on the field last nite. Great execution and game plan for Ryle, no excuses for HHS. Certainly there were plays, moments, injuries, home-field advantage, whatever....that's football folks. Bottom line great game and a ton of good sportmanship. My take aways include: HHS hurt themselves with pre-snap penalties A LOT (it is part of their aggresive style but you can't get away w/it against ball-control offense.......got better in 2nd half) HHS needs to get more running game established, if not, they are under-utilizing Corey Compton's potential contribution (more on that later) HHS D hits hard and covers the perimeter very well.......again size & depth their achillies heel Towles is a developing talent......nice game last nite, really showed leadership when game was getting away (for those that would like to see him "tougher", it comes with time....he is a puppy, when he is a senior he will play like a senior) Seidl is pound for pound as tough as they come.........great game. HHS D will need to tackle with their arms against straight up running teams, shoulder hits & diving at feet only works in open space Blaming fumbles or missed conversions is a cop-out (making the first 2pt conv. would have made Mueller a genius!) Ryle stayed w/game plan and executed all nite...Great win for the program, well deserved. Nice line play........controlled the clock by controlling the line Elliot is a true football player, tough as nails. Hempel, Lonkard showed great heart & leadership (particularly w/Elliott out) Mullens got better as the game unfolded Ryle deserves to be ranked #1 in NKY (for what its worth) that's what you get for challenging yourselves by taking on the best From here..........HHS will have to take the lessons learned about stopping the run (gee, maybe that's why playing Ryle was a good decision!) . Certainly missing LBs (esp. Sullivan) hurts in games like these........something I kept thinking as I watched the game was maybe Compton should switch sides of the ball to make up for the loss at ILB. I know Dale's philosophy of two-way players, etc. and he is huge in springing yards by blocking in front of Towles but personally I would consider this option.........anyway I've never coached a State championship, just something to consider. Again, great win Ryle............good luck to both teams in the playoffs.

Highlands/Simon Kenton 2011
Dear Bulldog, I am writing to help you out for your next broadcast............. "ducking" would be defined as a team that is unwilling to take on a worthy opponent when invited to do so. Note the operative word here being "invited" to do so. Suggesting that a program that has played most of the top programs in Cincy and within the Commonwealth over the past fifteen years on a consistent basis is "ducking" your beloved home team is hardly a starting place to give your program credibility. Since you and I have no first-hand knowledge whether these invitations were offered or not, perhaps we should stick to what we do know. In your case this might result in some dead air time............perhaps that is the better alternative anyway? Of course another example of "ducking" would be when one lowers their head to avoid being punched in the face.........either way I'm not sure you're getting it.

Covington Catholic QB Blake Bir
Saw the young man play last week and I am impressed.........don't know him/haven't met him but my instinct from watching him play was that he is a great kid......glad to hear that is the case. On the field, I was equally impressed by his performance (he obviously has the physical skills) and his poise (tough game, showed great understanding/calm in the situation). I would agree with the assessment that the QB position is solid for the next few years. Congrats on the positive coverage !

N. Ky. Freshman Football Playoffs Info
The championship game is scheduled for Saturday as I understand it.........Covcath/CampCo would play at CampCo (Mon) to decide the other participant.

JJ Jude sets a new state record for rushing yards in a game.
That's a lot of yards and I'm sure the young man works hard and should be proud of himself for his outstanding game..........as for the record itself, I'm not impressed. If he was breaking the record carrying his team in the fourth quarter of a competitive game, yes, if it is just because you are trying to break a record, what a shame. Again, not a knock on the young man for performing when asked to do so, but there are so many things wrong with the decision to leave him in there.

Highlands 27 Covington Catholic 20
I don't subscribe to "it was our worst game".......it wasn't their best but CCH was part of this equation as well. Certainly putting the ball on the ground three times and allowing a KO return for TD are uncharacteristic but it doesn't add up to "worst game". A few observations..........I agree that Compton leaving the game changed the game offensively for HHS. Compton was very effective when he was in the game, conversely, Streeter and True both fumbled (I believe both inside the 20yd line?) and the HHS running game became very timid. The D spent a lot of time on the field and with a few injuries (depth issue) I honestly felt they looked a little tired as the game wore on.......... Overall not a great performance but nothing alarming here, still a W. On the CCH side, there was very much to be impressed with. Bir showed great poise and overall the whole team & coaching staff did as well. They made adjustments when the running game was ineffective early and did not lose their faith in themselves and built off their successes as the game unfolded. Their passing game was very effective with quick lateral hits and crossing routes but INTs occurred when they went vertical. Thought they executed a solid game plan and showed a lot of heart. This is a good football team and they gave a good fight.........not quite there with HHS yet but have to feel good about this showing......I would.

New 4A Draft Alignment Discussion
I would think that some on here would be giving HHS the "more consistent" because of their dominance in 5A the last three years. Personally, I believe it is way to early to speculate on anyone "dominating" a class for any period of time. There are way to many factors to allow that to happen, after all, we are talking about the development of groups of kids! That being said, you can certainly put Boyle & Highlands up there based on their past accomplishment and the overall state of their respective programs. Bottom line, the 4A class will be very competitive for the period that these teams are present.............it's ridiculous to state that one couldn't beat the other in the future. Last time I checked, HHS, Boyle, CovCath, and LexCath had all won state championships in the last ten years and they had all beat each other at one point or another to get there..........so clearly it could happen again. BTW.....I believe HHS has also totaled 5 state championships since 2000..................00,04,07,08,09 (further evidence of just how close they are :thumb)

Who Stays Undefeated This Week?
The Holmes/Dixie game will be interesting.........Holmes on the road, could be an upset here.

Highlands dominance
Regarding #3, there are "several" f-ballers who participate in b-ball and track and field, but at HHS it is not common for those to be primary sports. First, track and field is more of an individual sport and it is easy to participate and still make Spring football practice, etc. As for basketball, they typically participate (when football is over) but they do not commit to the sport in the offseason (i.e. AAU,individual training) but rather choose football related practices and training. This is a distinction that applies to HHS and not neccessarily every school.

Highlands vs Dixie Heights (Predictions)
I concur, however, Dixie is still a better match-up for HHS athletically than most local schools because they will challenge the entire field and have athletes that you have to account for on both sides of the ball. Dixie could benefit greatly from preparing their players better in the off-season to start seasons stronger. There is still plenty of reason to put these two teams together on the schedule unless something changes in NKY football.

This just about says it all............... !

Highlands vs Dixie Heights (Predictions)
Considering Dixie is one of very few teams geographically (in Ky obviously) that may actually compete with HHS in any given year is reason enough. Additionally, they typically have athletes of a caliber that provides a test to HHS athletically..............on the Dixie side, I would hope that they will continue to attempt to progress their program and playing the best teams is the best way to challenge/measure yourself.
