Highlands 2010/2011

What does Highlands need to do to improve in 2010/2011? What do they need to keep doing to be sucessful? Remember, please be constructive.

I think Highlands is going to be very respectable this year. Patrick Towles will compliment Jack Stewart quite a bit down on the block and that will create some serious headaches for teams.

Jack Stewart will have a nice year. I think guard play may cause them to struggle a bit.

Al Dean will run the point and will be just fine. His main job will be to run the offense and distribute the ball to shooter Egan and scorers Crowley and Stewart.

They did lose a lot of seniors from last years team. They always struggle early in the year as the footballers and fans focus on the grid iron, but always seem to make a nice run by the end of the season.

Is Al Dean a better point guard than Carter New, I haven't seen either one play for awhile?

I have not seen Al Dean play, but I saw Carter New play this summer and that kid is an athlete. He was injured early in the summer, so he did not finish out his AAU season. But from what I saw this kid can handle the point guard duties.

They are both very solid players in the fact that they are strong with the ball and are very quick. Carter brings his football toughness to the hardwood and Al Dean brings his soccer quickness. I would expect to see those guys both getting a lot of PT at the PG position. Carter will likely get a late start due to the football playoffs but he will be counted on.

My schedule also has them playing on 12/11 in the Kentucky Bank Shootout and 12/27 through 12/29 in the Ashland Invitational.

Highlands will be a solid team this year that should be competitive with everyone.

 

Stewart is a POY candidate and will be counted on heavily to anchor the post at both ends of the floor.

 

If Highlands can get players like Dean, Crowley, New, and Towles to step up, they just might be better than predicted. I could see depth possibly being an issue for the Birds, however.

 

True will have to step up this year as well.

Lets hope some footballers come out in December to provide the depth. Towles will definitely be needed to provide depth in the paint and Drake Bruns has athletic ability as a lockdown defender and can jump. There are some sophomores that can contribute as well in Turner, Witte, McCoy and Collinsworth. Nick True had a nice summer playing with the Varsity and he will be in the rotation as well as a frosh.
