  1. If I'm not mistaken (don't even go there ), a short time ago, Dixie and HHS were not in the same District and still played? It seemed like they played early in the season, Dixie even won one year but I believe it was when they were not district opponents..............I personally would like to see these two teams continue to play.
  2. Of course they are down...............they lost to a Ky. team !
  3. I love this match-up..........wish I lived closer, I would definitely take this one in !
  4. I wouldn't disagree that T and X would tally more than the others but I also believe HHS would be scattered throughout as well. Think about it, since 1999, how many possible times would the Birds potentially come out out on top? At least a few.....................as for the others, certainly Male, Boyle, perhaps CovCath could have won in the right playoff scenario. Not sure it would be as certain as you are suggesting for T and X.
  5. A mediocre Highlands team to me (at this point in time) would be one that is capable of winning in the playoffs but not championship caliber. Although I would agree that this team would not compare favorably to, say the last three years, I do believe they have championship potential. This squad had more questions to answer coming in and are certainly not as deep, but formidable just the same. The fact that the score was closer last night than some expected, means nothing to me. Withrow showed a lot of athleticism and heart...qualities of a good football team. I was impressed that a team, traveling to HHS, coming in at 0-2, probably not playoff-bound, showed so much desire to compete to the final whistle. I thought HHS depth issues showed, with the injuries coming in and those through the course of the game, but despite that, still beat a quality opponent...hardly mediocre. Regarding the comparisons to Ohio teams: why? Do all the score comparisons, Louisville v. Ohio, NKY v. Ohio, T v. Elder, Manual v. whoever...whatever. HHS probably would have lost to several Ohio teams with what they put on the field last night, but probably would have beat some quality teams on other nights or with other teams. The fact that they can compete at all (even with a mediocre team:D) justifies that Ohio football ain't all that. Let's just enjoy these quality match-ups...wish there were more!
  6. The bottom line is that when these two teams were in the same class, district and/or sub-district, there wasn't a better rivalry (I'm talking CovCath v. HHS in their hey-dey caliber). That all changed and lopsided victories lead to hard feelings and a dropped series. Not necessarily anyones fault be it Mueller, Schneider, whomever.........clearly the time had passed where this was a necessary or relevant match-up in football. Currently NCC competes well against HHS in most sports but football isn't likely going to be one of them in the forseeable future. Unless NCC is loaded up and schedules are synced in those years, there is no benefit to either program to schedule this game. HHS should continue to catch a Cincy/L'ville match-up when possible and NCC is better served keeping Beechwood, CovCath, CampCo, Ryle, or a comparable Cincy opponent to round out their schedule and prepare for their playoff competition. If bragging rights in FT are the only reason...........there really isn't one.
  7. Glad to see the Kremer kid back from injury and playing well.................
  8. I believe that HHS lost an opener in 1979 to Scott Co HS in a local Bowl Game played at CampCo. HS ......not sure of the score. (21-0 maybe?)
  9. Highlands ran the runner from second to home on the suicide twice in this game. On the one referred to in the seventh inning, Young (pitcher) did momentarily look to first and then turned to make the play at home. BTW they made the out both times at home.......taking advantage of the Birds attempt at aggressive running. I personally didn't like the move to put Liggett on the mound simply because he does not pitch often and although he is a hard thrower, he doesn't possess good mound presence. This was evidenced on the play to first........when the first baseman commits to the ball to his right, the pitcher has to break on the ball hit to the right side. Secondly, I thought Mason was throwing fine and wasn't in trouble despite Buckler's double. Coach Baoni took a risk ,against conventional wisdom, by walking Hegge to put the winning run in position. The irony to that of course was likely that part of his reasoning was the first & third base runners scenario would cause a steal of second/home anyway so he would just set the force out........with Liggett still behind the plate, that is not a concern. Regardless, Bellevue rose from the ashes with some great at bats (the last three hitters had two strikes & two outs when they hit the ball)........thus the proverbial, "it ain't over til it's over" ! Congratulations to the Tigers who earned the District championship.......good luck at Regionals. For the Birds, Coach B. is doing the right things to build his program......his seniors this year were a good group, hopefully in the future its eight instead of four. I'm sure he learned a lot from this season and particularly this game....time to move on and keep building his program. Good luck to him as well.
  10. I'll second that..........besides some teams move them up & down from JV to Frosh but others have outstanding Frosh playing varsity that won't come down at all. If they are freshman or younger, let'em play, nobody is gaining an advantage here.
  11. Perhaps the biggest problem with this is you are often times creating a disparity in competition and this is particularly evident in baseball. The pitching rotation becomes critically important at this time of year and having a "lesser" team from a district enter the Regional tournament gives an advantage to the team that draws them ( again the draw v. accomplishment being a factor) It is even worse when the "lesser" team is from your District because someone else (from another district) gets your "lesser" runner-up to open in Regionals and gets to save pitching. It's obvious that both sides have an argument as to why to seed v. not seed but shouldn't the accomplishment of the season dictate pairings in a playoff........it does everywhere else in the world?
  12. Mikey is a fun player to watch with a lot of tools..........I remember him doing ballhandling skills as a "lil-tike" between AAU games and around the Summer blacktop league ! I am more impressed with how hard he has worked in his last two years. He has some real potential and could develop nicely for NKU or some other program. Good luck to you Mike in your decision making process.......:thumb:
  13. Amen on this one........this group cannot be measured on W-L (are you kidding me !) but that they are true competitors and quality young men. Congrats to Ben, Stephen, and Garrett, you and the NKU boys were great together. Good Luck to you all and......watch out NKU intramurals !
  14. The 36th is at Bellevue with their "infamous" draw scheduled for tomorrow 5/13.
  15. Certainly on the defensive side it would be hard to argue the likes of Liggett catching and Cotton roaming CF.............both would be strong contenders based soley on defensive prowess. Liggett literally controls the basepaths from the dish. That type of "game-management" at the high school level is certainly MVP criteria. He and Cotton are both strong at the plate as well. Sam maybe doesn't have the HRs but isn't playing at the Band-box at Boone either (not taking away from Ronald at all) Pugh is also a serious contender with his position supporting his overall value and hitting numbers..........certainly their three teams have a strong enough schedule to not have the "watered down competition" discussion. I would start the discussion among these three and move from there as the rest of the season unfolds. I cannot comment first hand on everyone as I admittedly have not seen Dixie yet this year but am familiar with their players, so there are some others that obviously deserve some consideration.
  16. I'll weigh in with "Choppie " Jones at Newport.......nice hitter, infielder & doing some pitching. Going even younger, I have to think Quinton Murray at Highlands is one of the best freshman. Playing varsity and pitching as a third starter, hitting well and playing every infield position. I have seen him several times this year and am very impressed !
  17. Looks like the Birds are starting to put it together a little after a tough stretch mostly related to their schedule ..... they now have to be able to knock off some of the "big boys" to be legit. They don't have a lot of depth but have some solid players and Coach Baoni is starting to get some team effort and execution of play which = wins........ btw....Quentin Murray is a gamer....look for this kid, he can do it all.....already!
  18. I have seen Brossart only once but 10th Region or not, they are an outstanding hitting team ! Individually, Brady Gray has impressed me and Shaun Meyer continues to be stellar for NCC. I'll second Hoskins from Ryle as well. My sleeper....Travis "Choppie" Jones from Newport who is hitting well including 3 dingers to date.
  19. Casey McDaniel is likely at Thomas More.....Flannery (last I heard) was going to Walsh, Kowolonek is going to Transylvania, heard Popp is going to Ryle.....(oops, I forgot he is graduating)
  20. Not sure what the issues are but HHS Beechwood only scrimmaged once......got to field and it rained out one day, played the next.
  21. Congrats to the Wildcats on a special season....you should be proud of all you accomplished on and off the court. What you have done for your school and your entire community is immeasurable and what you have gained for yourselves; great memories & sense of acheivement, will last a lifetime. To a fine group of young men and Coach Russell........my hat's off to you! For my buds Cody & Casey...much love and use this experience as you strive for success in the future !
  22. I believe he is a good coach and gets good performance from his players/teams. I do not personally know any of the specifics related to him relating to players and/or administration..........my only observation is he does tend to lose control of his emotions and that is a problem. When the whole gym goes quiet as you "address" a player's mistake and it is continued to the point that it is "uncomfortably embarrassing" ....it isn't good coaching, it's an anger management issue that can/should be altered. That being said, I would hope that is not the only issue that would cause his departure............
  23. Alex............glad you listened to your daddy all those years ....Congrats !
  24. I can only hope that the long-term design accounts for this issue.......I know it is not complete but right now, but.......it is a serious flaw to have the only entrance positioned away from ANY parking !
