SUPER 16 Class

Featured Replies

I know the KHSAA has a new 6 class alignment and no one is allowed to play up. But what if they still had 6 classes and a SUPER CLASS of 16.

Who would they be and whoever won it would obviously be the ENTIRE STATE CHAMPION. you can have 4 districts with them playing each other and a few non-dist games. At teh end do it like the sweet 16 and seed all 16 teams and play their own playoff.

Trinity

ST. X

Highlands

Male

Scott Co

Lex Cath

Simon Kenton

Ballard

PRP

Henderson co

Bowling Green

Manual

Ryle

Boone Co

Henry Clay

?????????

Question: why would any team not named Trinity or St. Xavier want to be in this class?

To me I guess to say we are the best overall. I am sure Highlands would jump right in, St X and Trinity can be beat. Maybe the 2 need to be split up and create 4 schools.

No team outside of those three would have a prayer of winning that class.

Everyone has a down year. One year or another. It would be tough though to win.

I noticed you put Lexington Catholic on there. While this is just for fun why would you not consider Boyle County? After all, they usually get the best of Lexington Catholic. Plus they have 6 state titles in little over a decade of time. Boyle County has had teams that could compete with St. X, Trinity and Highlands in the past. Boyle County is the 4A favorite and defending state champion. Also, Bell County would need to be mentioned.

Now, I'm not saying Boyle County could beat Trinity, St. X and Highlands. I'm just trying to make a good case for Boyle County. :thumb:

What 'objective' criteria would be used to create this class?

Sandbagger. Highlands could be in there as well. They might not win as many as the other two, but I'm guessing they'd be the king of the hill every now and then.

Call me what you'd like, and I'm sure some of my fellow Highlands BGP'ers will disagree, but if such a class were to exist, I honestly don't see that many years when a team other than Trinity or St. X would win it all. Now, such a class would be much more competitive than the current 6A class, since it would have some of the state's non-6A powers in it (including Highlands), but I suspect T and X would still be tough to get past.

I wouldn't disagree that T and X would tally more than the others but I also believe HHS would be scattered throughout as well. Think about it, since 1999, how many possible times would the Birds potentially come out out on top? At least a few.....................as for the others, certainly Male, Boyle, perhaps CovCath could have won in the right playoff scenario. Not sure it would be as certain as you are suggesting for T and X.

In a 10 year span, Trinity and St X would still win at least 7 out of 10 years, regardless who else was in there...Highlands would likely win 1, maybe 2, with a Male, Ballard, BGreen, Henry Clay or someone like that winning maybe 1or 2...My guess would be Trinity 5, St X 3, Highlands 1, someone else 1...

I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea of a "super class", but it would have to be in addition to 4 or 5 classes to create 5 or 6. Seven classes would be a bit much.

I still like the Metro 5a and the state 5a with the largest Metro(Louis/Lex) 16 teams and then the largest 16 non metro teams and let both be state champs, but, play each other for the overall championship. With only 16 teams in each of those classes, one less week of playoffs so there classes state would be Thanksgiving weekend and the weekend after being the large class overall championship.

Maybe the fact that the teams would be playing such tough competition within the super class would make them better teams, and thus better competition for T & X.

No way Boone should be in there. They aren't even top 5 in NKY most years anymore even though they are having a good year this year. Same with SK. They've had a nice little run but that's about it.

Bowling Green would never win a championship. Don't they get drubbed every year in the finals by a NKY team.

Triinity, X, Highlands. Every 4 or 5 years CovCath beat Highlands so I guess you could throw them in the 16 team field.
