Is it time for only 2 teams per district to the playoffs again?

Featured Replies

With the move to 6 classes and most districts going back to 4 teams compared to 5 and 6 team districs of the 4 class days, is it time? I know this gives most teams a chance for post season play but it also waters down the playoffs and hurts the gate.

Things this could improve on the football season.

1. Allow 11 or 12 regular season games

2. Help gates by giving better matchups in the regular season instead of rematches of games that were played a week or two prior that are usually blowouts anyways.

3. Makes district play that much more important.

4. Cuts down on unnecessary travel

5. Makes the playoffs much more special

I know some districts are an exception but most games in the first two rounds are not for the faint of heart. Just something I was wondering about.

No.

There have been at least 2 #4 seeds win tonight and several other good games. A lot of teams are having a hard time finding regular season games as it is. I say leave the 4 playoff teams per district.

Please someone listen.........this makes so much sense !

Yes...and to the point of teams having trouble finding regular season games...that is hogwash...that is a matter of teams trying to protect their record by not playing teams superior to them which further waters down the level of play in the state.

Yes1

Before West Jessamine beat Holmes I would have said yes (especially after being at a game where the 1 seed was up 49-0 with 9 minutes left in the 2nd quarter) but even if 1 team like West Jessamine is good enough to beat a 1 seed why should they be punished for being in a tough district. I have to say.....no.

AGREE!!!!! So what there are some blowouts...the best teams still end up winning and sometimes the best team maybe a 4seed or it just may be a big upset. There are also some very good 2vs3 games.

The current system is a joke. I agree, the first round games should be eliminated. Nobody wants to get beat by 50 and nobody wants to watch it. Including the fans of the winning team. Most of these games could be 70 or 80 point games really. It's a complete waste of time.

I'm all for it. Make the playoffs worth something. American society has lost a lot of their competitive edge and stuff like every team has to be in the playoffs is part of the problem. In life and business no one will make you a winner you have to earn it. Same for football.

I agree that it would hurt the Cinderella team runs and that there are a few instances each year where the 4 pulls the upset. That is unfair to those teams. However, like anything, there are negatives that go with every positive. With the extra regular season games, it could help prepare them for district play. As it is now, there really isn't all that much of an honor in winning district to a lot of teams. This would make teams take district play much more serious as they would be a playoff game in their own right. I would just personally like to see making the playoffs become a special privileged as a result of getting it done in the regular season instead of a given as it is now.

I'm just using this game as an example but it happens more often than not. Take tonight, Corbin was up 49-0 in the first quarter against Bath County. Temperatures were in the 30's/40's and UK was playing basketball on TV. Who really wants to watch that and who from Bath County wishes they would have stayed home or did stay home knowing the outcome of this game?

I should change the title of this thread to "It's time for our annual debate to go back to 2 teams per district to the playoffs."

Where is the dead horse. I can't find Flicka! Here boy. Carrots. Somebody get the carrots .........:deadhorse:

Yes... do some of these teams really enjoy their last game being a 50 point+ loss?

#3 seed Garrard won at #2 seed Estill tonight. Garrard had defeated Estill during the regular season as well, in a non-district game. Obviously Class 3A District 5's third place team was better than District 6's second place team this season. Under this plan, Garrard stays home while Estill goes dancing? Not a great idea.

Now, if you want to argue for no #4s making it, and giving #1s a first-round bye I might be willing to talk.
