It does get tiresome, doesn't it swampy? I wanted to stay out but I'll put in my two cents because no one has mentioned it in this thread. Why should football be different than ever other sport? Don't we have many district basketball games that are 80-20? Yet no one says eliminate district tournaments and put the top two teams from each district into the regional. Basketball regular season is worthless, right? Heck at least in football you are fighting for home field advantage in district play. You don't even get that in basketball district play. Maybe I should start a thread in basketball and title it "Eliminate District Tournaments". I wonder how everyone would respond to that thread. And no, it isn't different. So you play an extra week in the current football set up. Whoop tee do, my life is coming to an end because I have to watch an extra week of high school football.

 

You can't play 3 games in a week like in basketball. 14 weeks is plenty. The finals need to be played on Thanksgiving weekend, that was always special.

Let's do this.

 

Combine districts (i.e. 1+2, 3=$, etc...) and make 4 conferences in each class. That makes 7 or 8 conference games each year so findng people to schedule is now solved as each team only needs to fill a couple of games and traditional rivalry games can fill the void. Take the top 4 from each confeence and seed them into the playoffs.

 

Solves a bunch of issues mentioned.... but may create a couple of others.

I should change the title of this thread to "It's time for our annual debate to go back to 2 teams per district to the playoffs."

:laugh: You are certainly right about the :deadhorse:yearly debate and I will just say that I am 100% in favor of only 2 teams going to post season play. Alot of districts will have only a 4 team district so a team could go 0-10 and make the playoffs , imo even the players wold be embarrassed to be in the playoffs.

O.K., so there is my annual response to 4 teams out of a district making post season (and btw that would have left my Raceland Rams out of it this season). That to me is ridiculous, it's the the "everyone wins", "all get a trophy","don't hurt anyones feelings" way of thinking and I am like that commercial that aiired some time ago......."you have to EARN it".

Look at how Indiana does playoffs. Its a much better approach.

I disagree. Every team makes the playoffs and then a blind draw decides the match ups. It completely makes the regular season worthless. I have seen several times the 2 best teams in a sectional meet in the first round while a winless team gets a bye.

I think so even with 4 seeds beating 1 seeds. I think that it would be better 1st round games but it will never happen.$$$$$$$$$$$$

With the move to 6 classes and most districts going back to 4 teams compared to 5 and 6 team districs of the 4 class days, is it time? I know this gives most teams a chance for post season play but it also waters down the playoffs and hurts the gate.

 

Things this could improve on the football season.

 

1. Allow 11 or 12 regular season games

2. Help gates by giving better matchups in the regular season instead of rematches of games that were played a week or two prior that are usually blowouts anyways.

3. Makes district play that much more important.

4. Cuts down on unnecessary travel

5. Makes the playoffs much more special

 

I know some districts are an exception but most games in the first two rounds are not for the faint of heart. Just something I was wondering about.

 

Yes! While I sat bored to death Friday night, I was trying to find someone who enjoyed the blowout. The winner? The Loser? The fans? It used to be an honor to be in the playoffs, now it's a joke.
