The answer has less to do with playoffs and more to do with classes. Let the 4 seeds have their shot. I think there is more parity this year in at least 3 of the classes.

#3 seed Garrard won at #2 seed Estill tonight. Garrard had defeated Estill during the regular season as well, in a non-district game. Obviously Class 3A District 5's third place team was better than District 6's second place team this season. Under this plan, Garrard stays home while Estill goes dancing? Not a great idea.

 

Now, if you want to argue for no #4s making it, and giving #1s a first-round bye I might be willing to talk.

I've thought about perhaps eliminating the bye week during the regular season, then by winning the district you get a first round bye. If you don't win the district, no bye week all season.

What needs to happen is to keep the four teams from each district, but go back to the more logical, four-class system.

AGREE!!!!! So what there are some blowouts...the best teams still end up winning and sometimes the best team maybe a 4seed or it just may be a big upset. There are also some very good 2vs3 games.

 

Example of this is the Campbell Co vs GRC games. Last week CC, a 3 seed beat GRC, a 2 seed in 2 OT's. Tonight CC beat GRC 35-34, both in thrillers.

The current system is a joke. I agree, the first round games should be eliminated. Nobody wants to get beat by 50 and nobody wants to watch it. Including the fans of the winning team. Most of these games could be 70 or 80 point games really. It's a complete waste of time.

If the 4 seeds would have taken care of business in the regular season then maybe they would be a 1 or 2 seed. The system is too watered down with 6 classes. So a couple of 4 seeds won tonight, they will probably lose next week.

Monroe County and Fort Knox would not be in the playoffs if only the top two teams in a district went to the playoffs. Both teams went on the road and won. I imagine Glasgow and Washington County would have appreciated and agree with your idea of only the top two teams in a district making the playoffs.

Why do we play the regular season then? How many teams did not make the playoffs? We could just start with the playoffs, everyone gets in and plays a game, get the season over, and let the players who want to play basketball make it to their teams in time for the first game. I could live with 4 playoff teams if there were only 3 or 4 classes. But when virtually every team gets into the playoffs, the regular season means nothing. Are you going to hang a banner saying you were district champs?

All I know is there was a team from Woodford Co that would have been better served either chilling with their homies back in Woodford Co doing whatever teenagers do these days then getting shellacked by the Highlands Bluebirds. It was absolutely ridiculous and if the 1st teamers wanted to they could have scored 200 points tonight.

 

There is no way you can tell me that the players from Woodford Co got any pleasure out of that game tonight. It did allow the Bird Freshman to showcase their talent as a team when they marched 60 yrds down the field and scored on the Yellow Jackets.

Honestly who cares. Bottom line there are more football games being played, meaning there are more players getting to play another game of football. There is an additional week of extra gates for teams. All the other sports get to play a ton more games then football. The better teams will win anyway but at least some kids get to play another game and have that chance no matter how small it is to beat the Goliath. Sure the playoffs are watered down but at least some kids get to have one more game under the Friday night lights.

In 1999 Somerset was a 4 seed, had lost to Campbellsville and Danville during the regular season. They then came back and beat both of those team on their way to the state semi finals. I have seen GREAT teams left home back in the old only one team in each district makes the playoffs days.

A lot of districts had 3 way ties for first place and many had 3 way ties for 2nd-4th place, so some one stays home because one of there opponents lost more games than someone elses opponents????

Maybe the teams like Highlands or whoever should just get a bye or something. I really do not get any pleasure out of watching inferior teams like Woodford Co come up and play the likes of Highlands. Now I know why Jude ran for 8000 yards against them.
