It probably speaks more to the dislike of Dale Mueller that is prevelant with many opposing coaches than the superior coaching abilities of Chuck Smith. Smith did great things at Boyle and I'm sure he's a great coach but what Mueller has done with taking Highlands to another level is pretty remarkable. Like him or not Dale Mueller has accomplished way more in the high school ranks than Chuck Smith.

At most schools I'd agree that wrestling really helps football players but at Highlands I'm not sure anything could better prepare them for football than the off season weights and conditioning program that they already have. I'd love to see more schools in NKY get wrestling but I think it'd have a tough time surviving at Highlands.

Wasn't the knock on Darius that he never turned into the leader everyone hoped? He was a nice 4 year player but he was never the man to take charge and calm things down nor did he ever appear to want that role.

Now we find out why the Pope stepped down. He heard Chuck Smith wanted the job.

I drove by the new stadium yesterday and it sure looks great. It looks to be completed as well. Anyone know if they have anymore work to do? :walk:

I hear Stoops is at Highlands today looking at 3 kids in the 2014 class. As others have already pointed out, very few kids go on to play at the next level and NKY usually only has 1 or 2 kids a year that are capable or meet the size metrics to play at the Division 1 level.

So far I've heard, Dave Turner, Scott Fryman and Jason Turner with more being interviewed.

I don't believe he should ever be entitled to a second chance coaching kids. He was the head coach on a team that ignored the KHSAA heat index rule and a kid lost his life. As the head coach you are responsible for the actions of anyone on your staff as it relates to their actions with the team.

The guy states that his kid shaved a full second off of his 40 time and at least doubled his bench reps by working hard. It's pretty simple every kid at Highlands works this hard if they want to get on the field. It's no secret just get every kid at Simon Kenton to do that and they'll have plenty of team speed too. Highlands coaches are able to teach some pretty deep level technique which makes them appear to play faster. They don't have to waste time motivating kids to work hard in the weight room and practice reps because if they don't there is someone just as good as them that will and they will sit. The Highland's advantage is as simple as not having to spend time yelling at kids to push themselves because they do it themselves. How do you capture that is the question that most every other coach in KY has to figure out.

One of the reasons IMO that Highlands is always the top team in NKY. If I had my wishes Coach Lickert would take Durham around to every elementary school in the Campbell County system trying to get more kids excited and wanting to play football. I don't see anything wrong with it at all.

I disagree, he was good but I don't think he was better than any of the other guys. Just my opinion but I went head to head with him a couple of times in my playing days. I'd probably replace him with either of the Reynolds brothers as well.

Pretty solid list, the only change I think I'd make is I'd swap Grubbs for Kuhnhein because footwork, technique and skill wise I don't know that I've seen a better highschool lineman.

I've only seen Highlands play since the mid 80's but since then it's a no brainer for Justin Frisk.

I think X probably has to be considered the favorite for next season at this point.

In my opinion it would at least be the same but probably a bit worse with the families that can't afford out of district tuition being able to go wherever for free.

I hear a favorite line of Coach Turner's when the team is breaking for individual is "Skill players right here, Running backs, wide receivers and QB's in the other end zone."

I left early so I didn't see all of the stuff at the end of the game. I did see the coach on the field incident and when the flag was thrown it was obviously meant to be a 15 yard penalty but I'd say after some discussion they waived it off. I don't have a whole lot of a problem with that but the coach probably deserved one. I saw a really bad no call on a fade route for a pass interference but the most frustrating call I saw all night was the 15 yard penalty called on Seth Hope. I'm still trying to figure that one out because all that I saw him do was do a forearm bump with a teammate. Previous to that Lex Cath guys were going crazy after big plays, celebrating, gesturing to the crowd, etc., but a forearm bump draws an unsportsmanlike penalty? Overall this reminded me a bit of the Elder game; that crew didn't want to call anything. This crew didn't want to call anything except for holding.

I think Scott county wins but I hope Simon Kenton pulls the upset. Go Pioneers!

I think the Camels win 35-14. I think the Camels are playing much better since the first game and Simon Kenton is still playing the same.

I think there isn't any doubt that Trinity is going to win it all and that they will face Scott County in the state semi's but I don't see anything that scares me out of Bryan Station. I wouldn't be suprised at all to see Simon Kenton beat them nor do I think they could beat Campbell County in the 2nd round.
