  1. It's getting the thread off topic and I don't lose sleep over it one way or the other but if you are running a program do you keep Freshman for one year and then cut them the next year when that better 8th grader gets to the high school or do you keep the 8th grader now and prepare him more for future years. IMO, if the Freshman is not better than the 8th grader then I take the 8th grader and if the Freshman puts in the work and gets better the next year maybe he will make the team. It can be argued back and forth but that's my take.
  2. I've heard Holy Cross has cancelled the scrimmage tomorrow so Cooper will start the season Saturday without a scrimmage. Disappointing but not a big deal. It would have been nice to play while the sun is out though. Rain coming by the end of the week.
  3. I believe Cooper plays Holy Cross on Wednesday. I was hoping Cooper would use both scrimmages but I think this is their only one. I've seen one intrasquad and parts of a couple practices and Cooper can put a starting nine that will be their best in their four years, IMO. This team seems to gel better than the others as well. Time will tell though.
  4. He is a very nice man. I just spoke to him at the Conner/Cooper game a couple of weeks ago and he hasn't changed a bit. He was my drivers education teacher in the 80's and he still remembers the stories.
  5. He is a very good young man who stepped his game up a lot in the last few weeks. Next year should be exciting for him and the team.
  6. Yes, not sure of his exact size but put together really well. I agree with not taking his high school home stats as a reference point due to where he plays but I have seen him hit since he was 9 years old and he could always hit. I believe it was the summer tournament at East Cobb where he got the most attention. I'm not sure which Ohio team he is playing for this summer but he will be one to watch for sure. Nothing against Lankheit as he is very good as well but Norton is probably around 6'2" if I had to guess but I haven't seen him since last summer.
  7. One of the best hitters at any position for his age. The last I heard Louisville was very high on him.
  8. He had better teams over the last few years than this one but it just happened to be the same time Holmes had VERY good teams. Congrats to Boone and I hope they go far.
  9. I thought Cooper represented very well all year long. They may not of had the student section as some (but was still better than most) but the overall fan support for a school four years old was above my expectations.
  10. Does anyone have a list of who made All Tourney?
  11. Congrats to NCC and nice run by the Jag's. I thought Maniacci had a coming out party the last few games. He was very good in both games and has been much more aggressive on offense. Cooper will be very tough next year as Shelton has improved and the Frosh Hathorn is going to be very good IMO. Collins, Morgan and Maniacci will be back as well.
  12. I believe Coopers gym may be as big as well but I like the BOK as it was hard to find a seat in the last couple of regional's at the high schools.
  13. I will still root like heck for the Jag's but watching NCC for the first time last night my first thought was I didn't like this match-up for Cooper. Never count a team out that plays with no fear and has a coach with no fear.
  14. It's also nice to see the fan support for Cooper this year. Every game I wento had large crowds and a very supportive student section. I know they sold out of their tickets the school received to sell in advance for this game but their regular season games had great support as well.
  15. Newcath was impressive tonight. Someone please tell the Cov Cath fan that sat behind me that fouls do not have to come out equal between the teams. He must have yelled "the fouls are 6 to 1" about 20 times in the 3rd quarter. If your team fouls more than the other the fouls will not come out even.
  16. Q, you were close on your point spread prediction, you just had the wrong team winning.
  17. I have a few thoughts. Cooper may have lost some games this year as they were growing as a "team" but they were given zero chance by many. In all honesty, I only gave them a small chance. However, when you can beat Holmes and Boone twice in the same season, then you have a solid club "capable" of beating anyone in the 9th region (this year). Very few teams ever beat Boone twice in a season. Roman got the match-up he wanted when he wanted to see Dixie and Cooper but I'm not sure why he wanted this match-up. When Stansbury got in foul trouble Dixie had no one that could handle Maniacci. AJ is a streaky shooter and when he is on, look out. Newcath looks like a bad match-up from what I saw tonight as they had several big men who could play but I wouldn't count out the Jag's but they will have to play their best. Congrats on a great win!!
  18. I have mixed feelings in the strategy. First, is the object to give your team the best chance to win or to have your players "experience" playing in a regional game on a college floor? I couldn't name one player on either team and have only seen less than 10 girls games in my life but I guess if I was a parent of one of the girls I would like to see my daughter play a "normal" style game just for the sake of watching her play instead of stand around even though she probably would have little chance of winning. So I would say the parents on here hate the style played when the coach was trying to win any way possible and the fans, probably of underdog HHS, liked the strategy because they just want to win and it almost worked. I didn't see the game but with the disparity in high school girls scores throughout the season, if NDA is a lot better than HHS then the NDA coach could have pressed and trapped and caused turnovers and take HHS out of this strategy. Just my opinion.
  19. I haven't watched enough of all the teams to see who is deserving or not but I do like the fact that coaches can't vote on their own so at least that is a little less biased. I do wonder though how you pick an Academic winner, regardless of who wins. Do other coaches know what another kids grades are from another school? Just curious.
  20. I agree. Coach gave it to the three Senior's.
  21. You could very well have those 3 all winners in round one.
  22. Cooper played very well the whole game and had a 12 point lead after 3. Boone's pressure forced several turnovers to start the 4th and they cut the lead to 2 with about 3 minutes to go. Cooper gets a layup and in the final minute plus, AJ Collins hits 6 free throws. Very clutch for a great young man. All the kids played hard and each took their turn having positive plays. Boone played hard as well but just couldn't get the 3 point shot to fall tonight. Cooper beats Boone 2 out of 3 this year. Good luck to both teams. The region should be fun to watch as I think a number of teams can win it.
  23. I hate to see any kid miss games due to injuries but he played when they lost by 35 and I doubt it would have made a difference in this game.
  24. Cook did hit 3 3's in the first 3 or 4 minutes and Cooper was in control the whole game. They were up 13 at the half and had a 20 point lead most of 3rd and coasted through the 4th. It's funny how after Cooper beat Conner by 35+ last time that there was a poster from Conner hoping they would see Cooper again in the District's. I guess you need to be careful what you wish for. Many times games are decided by how the teams match up. Cooper could not beat Ryle but Conner beat Ryle twice. I've only seen Conner the three times they played Cooper and I can't see how they beat Ryle but evidently they match up well with them. Congrats to the Cooper kids for making their first Regional!!
