Highlands 2011 Season
The only problem with HHS is there is such a focus on football (which is fine if that's what they want) that kids want to make sure they succeed on the football field and if they play baseball they are not getting the extra training, etc that the football only players are getting. If there are football/ baseball players that are in this talented 7th, 8th, 9th grade classes expect some of them to give up baseball like many have done in the past. Just a fact and nothing to be ashamed of if the kid is happy, as that's all that should really matter. I'm sure there is enough talent walking the halls to be competitive on the diamond.

Mat Isler of Ryle HS commits to Thomas More
I thought with all of the talk about Sexton that he would have better offers. No disrespect to Thomas More as they are doing great and it is nice to see them keep local talent. I thought pre-season that D1 schools were looking at Sexton. I hope they all succeed and wish them the best.

Ryle 13 Beechwood 2
I have a very good source that was there getting ground rules and Roesel, along with everyone else there, was told with Districts starting this week, let's make sure your players know not to do anything to get an ejection, such as illegal contact with catcher, etc.. The coaches were also told no out of the ordinary bantering, etc.. on calls. So if this is the case the coach did get a warning there along with when he verbally told him out loud in front of everyone during the game. I was also told the batter said he did not get hit but not sure who he told this too.

Based on the Weather forecast this week.....
Did Ryle have their tarp on last night?

Holy Cross 6 Cooper 0
I think you are correct that they were on due to drop strikes. The ones they hit hard were fielded and the ones they missed they get on base. Go figure.

Holy Cross 6 Cooper 0
As a Cooper Parent and getting shut out I was not too upset with this game. Their Frosh Dunn who has been our number 1 threw well. He gave up 2 in the 3rd while allowing 3 walks that inning which was the only downfall. Tiberi had a sinking line drive right at the left fielder and he dove for it but came up short and when the ball got by him the 2 runs scored. Both runners scoring were walked. Dunn went 4 innings and allowed 2 against a very good team. It was 2-0 in the bottom of 6 and Cooper had 4 errors including 2 by the relief pitcher that accounted for 4 unearned runs. I hear Ritter is either their #1 or #2 and Cooper hit several hard balls off him but right at people and they made no errors. They had bases loaded with one out in the 2nd or 3rd and a strike out and ground out ended that threat. I hear Ludlow cancelled on Cooper for Friday so they go to Beechwood and then Bishop Brossart on Saturday. While they will have a hard time beating any of these 3 teams, it is the best scenario for facing Boone County on Monday as they will see quality pitching leading up to this game. It may not help them but it can't hurt IMO.

Conner 5 Covington Catholic 1
If you field the bunts, Cov Cath doesn't seem to score much. They scored a lot in the Cooper game but Cooper threw their bottom 3 pitchers including 1 who I think has thrown 2 inning's in the last 2 years and Cooper's defense didn't help them much. Cov Cath is solid and can beat anyone as most scores will be low and close.

Conner 5 Covington Catholic 1
No one is talking much about Conner but they have several good wins this year. The District Semi's will be good in the 33rd as well as 35th. Conner 5, Covington Catholic 1 WP -Nelson (4-3); LP -Hellmann. Leaders: Con-Maines 2B, 2 RBI. Records: Con 16-8.

Cooper 17 Highlands 7
It was cold and windy. They are doing a nice job on their field though.

Boone County Vs Conner Predictions
I believe it was 12-10 Boone.

9th Region's Best
We battled the Flames for years and they were always good. I thought the Ohio Heat may have overtaken them the last couple of years though. Both programs very good though.

Conner 13 Cooper 4
He was out the week for Spring Break that he left and then 3 games once he came back which happened to cover 2 weeks with the rain outs. He is back in now.

It's been a very dissapointing year for Cooper on several fronts. I think Coach should play his best to win and if the parents of those who are sitting don't like it, then so be it. I know the Athletic Director would back him up on playing time issues.

Covington Holy Cross 4 Covington Catholic 3 (9 innings)
I am too lazy to look it up and don't have the time right now but an umpire friend of mine who studies the book a lot says that as long as the umpires did not leave the field that they could appeal. He said it did not matter if the players were off the field.

Not to get off topic of the thread but I think it is a great move by Mr. Brown to have High School games there. It gets more people to his stadium with hopes of them coming back to catch a Freedom game this summer. I think he had a chance to make a few bucks when he was able to sell beer but I guess he's not allowed to do that now so the gate money goes towards his cost to cover the staff, etc.. With his son being a Frosh at Cov Cath, I'm sure he is a High School fan as well. It's a great place to play and to watch games and wish our team would play more there. Saturday would be a great day to start at 8AM and have games all day long but it's probably too late to plan something like that. The 9th Region tourney is a great time to watch local baseball at the Freedom.

CovCath improves their record to 14-2 and next plays Campbell County @ Florence Freedom on Wednesday April 27th @ 5pm I think Cov Cath will be the only team to get their full amount of games in this year.

College Updates on Former NKY Players?
He pitched some in High School as well. I spoke to his mother one day and she said a few MLB teams were looking at him for a pitcher and was clocked in the 90's.

Ryle 7 Cooper 6
Can you give us any names of the top players to look for in the future? Who is leading hitter? Who hit 3 homers in one day? That is impressive at any level.
-
Ryle 7 Cooper 6
Ryle has a very good program going at all levels. Cooper is still building their's up and they are getting more depth each year. The varsity game had 3 Soph's and a Freshman in the line-up and another Soph who entered late. If you take that core group of players I think they could hang with some JV teams as well since they are holding their own with the varsity teams.

Covington Catholic 5 Cooper 1
This was a closer game than I expected. It was 5-0 after 2 innings. The 2 runs scored in the 2nd came with 2 outs and 2 on and Lankeit hits a hard one hopper to the pitcher who made a nice stab, then a play you have seen at every level. He has the ball before Lankeit is out of the box and he jogs a few steps towards first and tries to lightly toss it to the first baseman and it goes five feet over his head and 2 runs score. Either keep going towards first and underhand it or get it step and throw normal speed. The Jag's offense has been up against good pitching this week and with Thompson out they have strung nothing together. Cov Cath will be a tough out this year as they played good defense and put the ball in play.

Thursday April 13th CovCath will play a Double Header
Cooper plays there Thursday so I would say the 14th.
-
Campbell County 5 Cooper 0
Thompson started for Cooper and was unusually wild. I think he had 6 or 7 walks in 3 innings.
-
Western Hills 7 Harrison County 6
Is this the same Western Hills in Cincinnati that Cooper swept in a double header last weekend?

How good is Holmes?
I could be wrong but I heard Conner won this game 8-2 even though I did see the website listing Holmes the winner.
