Holy Cross 6 Cooper 0

Final from Meinken Field.

Nick Ritter tunes up for next week's districts with a complete game shutout.

Blake Tiberi goes 4-4 for the Indians.

As a Cooper Parent and getting shut out I was not too upset with this game. Their Frosh Dunn who has been our number 1 threw well. He gave up 2 in the 3rd while allowing 3 walks that inning which was the only downfall. Tiberi had a sinking line drive right at the left fielder and he dove for it but came up short and when the ball got by him the 2 runs scored. Both runners scoring were walked. Dunn went 4 innings and allowed 2 against a very good team.

It was 2-0 in the bottom of 6 and Cooper had 4 errors including 2 by the relief pitcher that accounted for 4 unearned runs. I hear Ritter is either their #1 or #2 and Cooper hit several hard balls off him but right at people and they made no errors. They had bases loaded with one out in the 2nd or 3rd and a strike out and ground out ended that threat.

I hear Ludlow cancelled on Cooper for Friday so they go to Beechwood and then Bishop Brossart on Saturday. While they will have a hard time beating any of these 3 teams, it is the best scenario for facing Boone County on Monday as they will see quality pitching leading up to this game. It may not help them but it can't hurt IMO.

Weren't the bases loaded on dropped third strikes?

Good to see the Indians get back on track though.

Cap41 - you are correct, at least 2 of those 3 runners in that inning were on via dropped 3rd strikes. Ritter got 5 outs that inning.

Senior/Alumni night tonight vs. Simon Kenton at 7:00 pm. Should be a fun night honoring the seniors and state tournament classes of 1974 and 1980.

I think you are correct that they were on due to drop strikes. The ones they hit hard were fielded and the ones they missed they get on base. Go figure.

Dunn needs to attack the zone. He has to trust his stuff as he did against Ryle. Walks are killing him at this point. He has some minor mechanical issues that need to be fixed for sure. Not a typical Frosh size and arm wise, but has not harnessed the mental portion of the varsity game. Decent performance.
