People don't realize how important camps and combines are. I think along with the big 7 on 7's they are essentially the AAU of football.

Those camps are huge. If I have a QB or any other play I think has the goods, they're going early and often to them. Jack99 is this a hypothetical question?

Velocity is something to add in there but I thing that has alot to do with mechanics as well. Footwork, hips, throwing motion will all add alot to your velocity, though some guys like Favre can blister your hands on nothing but arm strength. I'll pick size as the #1 most desired factor. They can teach just about anything else, and what they can't teach like speed is just an added advantage in many systems. JMO :thumb:

I meant to add mobility if you have a dual threat QB. :thumb: Drew Brees is more of the exception than the rule. He's one of the most accurate passers in NFL and was a stud in college, though he was slightly under recruited coming out of HS. He also grew up in Texas (I believe) and that is the fertile zone for QBs, if teams can't find a QB Texas is always a very good place to start. Passer rating really means nothing as far as college recruiting is concerned. Plenty of guys with good/great stats get no looks, and plenty of guys with pedestrian stats get all kinds of offers. QB rating in HS has alot to do with the system the QB plays in, the talent he plays with, and the talent he plays against. Not really something that is always going to translate to Division 1. A D1 school would always rather have a big 6'4" guy with a rocket arm, and a good set of mechanics that play some pretty good competition on a regular basis than a guy that put up great stats. Now if you get all of those together then you have a guy that is probably getting looks from the 'Bamas and Floridas around the country.

Russell does seem to be playing better, but they need to play a good game this week. No turnovers, good solid defense and ball control on offense. Mason is the favorite in this one no doubt, but I would hate completely count out Russell, especially at home.

I think WC wins this one and sets up the chance for a winning season.

I think as far as D1 goes, there is alot more to it. For a pocket passer you probably need to be 6'3" to 6'5", with a little bit of everything they're looking for. Good mechanics, good arm strength, poise, etc. Also a QB or any player needs some exposure. A trip to some big time camps wouldn't be bad, but many are invite only. Level of competition also is looked at alot, some guys are taken with less than great stats if they play in a great area for football. I also hate to say it, but if you're asking about a specific player they're probably not D1. I think you'll know a D1 QB when you see one, stats can only take a player so far when it comes to getting looks from the big schools. I don't have a clue if you are asking about a specific player or not though. JMO.

I just can't see it. I've always felt (and maybe this is my youth speaking) that Trinity was the better program, but St. X will get their share as well. They have too much tradition, talent, resources, etc. for them to be down for that long. They will be back, and get their share of victories and championships.

Great post OR, I didn't know the numbers at Paris were this low. I am now a Paris fan having read this. Hats off to those kids and the coaching staff. I hope their hard work and dedication can pay off in a win or two at some point this season.

I think it seems like GC may have the better team by a little bit, but Cross may be enough to be the difference. That kid is I'm going to punt the ball out of bounds, and play ball control when we are on offense good.

UK#1Fan, I do admire your dedication to your program. Just don't bet your house, the kids college fund, or anything like that on the game vs. Highlands this year man. Keep fighting the good fight, even though most of us do not see things your way. :thumb:

Game at Blazer or JC?

I thought it sounded like the two teams were extremely even. Had the game been at West, they might have ended up on top. Actually had a few breaks went there way they may have pulled it out. But, when you go to Russell you have to capitalize when you have the opportunities.

I think a team needs to go on the road, along with the other things mentioned. If Highlands, Trinity, etc. want a chance to win the MNC they need to schedule a trip to one of the big shots in Texas or Florida. Ohio games are nice, but that can only get you so much recognition because it's so close. If you go down a beat a Trinity (Texas) or Northwestern in Florida, you'll get some votes from that part of the country, and some from around the country as well.

I really like Coach Baldwin. I just see no way that this game will be close at all, at any point other than the kickoff.

What kind of size does Russell have? If they can push West Carter around physically and limit big plays, I think they'll be extremely tough for WC to beat. West is small and fast and from what I've seen they fly to the football really well. But a physical game is their worst nightmare IMO, just because they have virtually no size. Russell is always tough at home, if the game where in Olive Hill I might pick WC just because the scores are always closer there just like last years game. Game will probably decide who gets the 2 seed in the district, so I'd expect both teams will lay everything on the line.
