Russell may be a little bit down but they're sure not out. Who takes this big district matchup played on Friday in Flatwoods?

I believe that Russell has been playing better. But those first few games that Russell played are not the same type teams as the last three teams they have played and won. But they did win. And that will help this Russell team when they play Mason Co. I do believe Mason Co will be way to much for Russell this year. Mason seems to be loaded. So I'm going to take Mason Co by three TD's!!

IMO Mason County validates their ranking and wins impressively at Russell.

Mason's only beat Russell at Russell once, when the current crop of seniors were sophomores. Mason is better this year than that year. The last three games, Mason's playing better than last year's undefeated team. Mason wins.

Papa plans to be there for this one. For years, Russell has been the primary stumbling block for Mason County. It will be interesting to see how Mason's skill players/quick-strike offense compares to Russell's ground game - a system which often gives the Royals fits.

Russell's ground game would have to be hitting on 12 cylinders and their defense smothering.

 

Mason's offense is stronger than last year at this time. Indeed, I think the team overall is better than last year at this time. Two strong, fast running backs, plus Gilbert, Black and the newer receivers are just getting better each game. Teams have double and triple teamed Gilbert leaving the other receivers open for easy gains. And, Gilbert is still the leading receiver. The offensive line is led by three solid seniors. I won't rule out Russell either. Anything can happen when these two play. But, Mason has been playing with confidence, poise and determination. They'll be tough to handle.

This will be a very tough game for Russell and a good test to see if they've improved from their early season losses to Greenup, Ashland, and Ironton. Russell kept it respectable with Mason County last year losing only by 13. However, that was due in large part to a momumental one man effort from now graduated Travis Jones. He went for 195 yards and 3 TDs. Russell is going to need their best effort of the season to make this a game. Something tells me they will, though, as most Russell teams tend to show up and toughen up late in the season. It should be a good weather night for football. Hopefully Mason County brings a lot of fans. They have an impressive program and an impressive team this year that has a legitimate chance to compete for the state title. Due to the district realignment, it's a shame this will be the last installment in this good rivalry.

I think Mason wins unless they turn it over. I hope Cooper runs wild and he'll have to. Without Davidson the defense will suffer.
