Two good teams that played very hard. Very entertaining. Shame that fans have to criticize coaches and players. The true differene was that Dixie had about 13-14 players playing the game on both sides of the ball. Highlands had 22-26 payers playing only one way. They were fresher in the second half. I dont think it was a tale of being outcoached. In the end, the best team with the most talent won. Congrats Highlands. Although there were a few late hits and personal fouls, I thought the kids showed alot of class on both sides afterwards as many of them talked and congregated on the field for quite some time.

Agreed but they dont throw many of those so I can see why he may not be as polished in that area. Or maybe the WR's arent used to catching short yardage bullets.

 

It's a tough situation. Towels has a D-1 arm and needs to develop that for the next level where the game is much faster. The passes that are handcuffing the WR's are the ones where they have to purely go up with their hands and it isn't easy to do with that much velocity on it. If he hits them in stride on a fade, or if they are standing square with their hands out of in front of their body or face it's just easier to catch the football.

 

I think the JR players will work hard in the off season and the finished product will be nice next year.

Nice to know they have Shehan coming back along with a very good sophomore in David Christian and lest we forget Jac Collinsworth. But good points and hopefully they get the passing game going against JC because I think that is where they are going to win the game.....in the AIR.

The Dixie front office may want to look at some changes at the coaching level if they want to win the big games.Its sure not the lack of talent !Although once again the big boy displayed his cowardness amongst his coaches,teammates and parents.On the flipside, with the McCoy kids running and passing ability, what a dynamic duo he would be in the backfield with a run and gun potential with Towles.Looks like starting material to me on atleast one side of the ball. Looked like some secondary changes helped against the passing in the second half. Looking forward competing against any pass threats,I would like to see the Abner kid playing safety not only due to his height but the cross the middle passes would not be a factor after a couple of his clean Knock Out blows-WOW!.

 

I think that is crazy talk. I know I am one of the few supporters on here of this coaching staff, but they had a good game plan and fell short to the odds on favorite to win state. This coaching staff did beat Trinity at Trinity in the playoffs in the past. How many other coaching staffs across the state can say that?

I really liked Dixie's passing game. I thought they kind of took their foot off the pedal coming out of halftime. They had the Birds reeling and were getting the ball first. HHS D stepped up and forced a 3 and out, HHS scored on the ensuing drive and Dixie began to "doubt". Birds never did stop the man in motion reciever and Dixie recievers looked to have a 3 yard bubble to catch in all over the field. Might have been a different outcome if Dixie completes the "down the middle bomb" in the first quarter. Highlands showed great resolve and the difference in the game is that Highlands kids expect to win...no matter the situation. It's similar to UC's mantra "Next Man IN!" The coaches train the "understudies" to be winners at the Frosh-JV level so they can contribute when needed at the Varsity level.

 

As for the conduct on the field...I blame the coaches. Let me go "old school" here for a moment. Personal fouls (player control) cannot be accepted! Coaches HAVE to pull the offender immediately. My old ball coach did this...and met you at the numbers to explain, in no uncertain terms, that this type behavior would NOT be tolerated. And your playing time WAS affected.

 

The hit late in the game on Dixie reciever #15 was, IMO, unnecessary and would have been $$$ fine in the league. Game was in hand, clock was dwindling out the final seconds, reciever was "defenseless"...and the defender could have possibly incurred injury himself...wasn't worth the risk at that point in the game. I expected better.

 

"Moose" McCoy should have been more frequently on the field somewhere this year. Too good of an athlete to stand around on Friday.

A good night for the Dixie Linemen they gave the Birds some fits at times. 64-Handlon and 51-Zumdick were some of the stand outs.

Well I talked to the player's folks in the parking lot after the game and his father said that's the game of football. He said his kid would of played the exact same way defensively if it was reversed. So I guess some people are making a much bigger deal out of nothing. Move on my friend.

Birds need to learn how to tackle and take the guy down instead of hitting high and in the #s. Too many kids trying to make a big hit for the highlight films. Penalties needlessly continue although D Birds did a better job of watching the ball this time and not jumping off. McCoy was awesome and a reason JV games were fun to watch this year for sure. If you didn't get to see any, you missed out!

Great game to watch! Dixie had momentum on their side as it is rare we go into the locker room down at the half. Like I tell my players though, the game is won or lost in the 2nd half. Birds turned it on and showed everyone what they're made of! Great job, boys!

Why is it crazy? I think its a legitimate statement. They have to be tired of getting "Spritzkied", especially with all the money that's been spent out there. Doesnt seem like a 6-6 program would spend this kind of money to be mediocre.

Even though I am a Highlands supporter you have to give it up to #15 for Dixie, Bobby Leonard. That kid shows more heart when he plays than I have ever seen. He had an amzing game tonight and an amazing career at Dixie leaving with the all time receptions record at Dixie. Breaks my heart to see the seniors for Dixies season end like this, especially Leonard. You will see him playing college ball somewhere. He reminds me of a Wes Welker type. Great game to both teams and good luck to the Birds! Bring home some hardware! Oh and btw I was talking to some Dixie parents at half and they informed me Pike was driving down to Auburn after the game for a visit, so good luck to that young man also.

It was a clean hit. Everyone in the stadium knew they were passing including the Highlands defense, Abner came up and laid a hit on a receiver trying to make a play in his zone.

It was kind of like being at Keeneland and watching the novice horse player jumping up and down when his horse is 5 lengths ahead at the first quarter pole only to finish nearly dead last at the finish line.

 

I prefer the celebration and cheering Dixie showed to the sit on their hands and wait to win attitude shown by a large number of HHS fans. I think the team deserves more support than only after a big play or when it's third and long. I'll get down off my soapbox now.

Uh, HHS gets PLENTY of love on this site. I just wanted Dixie to get a few kudos for being one of the few teams to give 'em a tough game this year.
