He has really improved on his touch this season as compared to last, atleast on the long ball. When he throws that out route it is a rocket and tough to snag but I thought the Bird receivers played well and did a nice job of getting quality YAC. The misses were clearly overthrown or balls thrown too hard considering the distance. Towles has a gun that is for sure.

I agree on the long balls. On the intermediate routes is where he needs to tune it down some..

Agreed but they dont throw many of those so I can see why he may not be as polished in that area. Or maybe the WR's arent used to catching short yardage bullets.

Heard Pike and another player bumped in to one another, word were exchanged, Pike pushed the Highlands player, more words were exchanged, then Pike lost his cool and was ejected.

 

And let's just say that the words being exchanged by one of the players were words that would make you look at your kiddies and say "earmuffs."

I was completely befuddled in the 2nd half. Highlands started running the ball with Towles, and it was very effective. In the first half, when Dixie had 4 down lineman, they were able to stop the run better. During the entire 2nd half, they went with 3. They're linebackers are too small to fill the gaps and take on the lineman thus allowing towels plenty of holes and running room.

 

As for questioning who has control at Dixie, yes, they lost their composure at the end of the game. However, let's not act like Pike and company were the only ones out there talking. How many personal could did Highlands have in the first half, 4? There was a LOT of jawing going both ways last night.

The biggest difference int he game came at halftime when HHS made adjustments and it seemed like Dixie was content. HHS dialed up the defense to generate offense like they have done all year. Once again though for Dixie, they were out coached. What was the deal with Spritzky toward the end of the game he was out on the field for the last three minutes doing a lot of lobbying at the refs? And finally the hit that #5 for HHS laid at the end of the game was an absolute slobber knocker!

 

I was standing on the sideline and heard what Spritzky was saying. The coach was telling the official that " they are high school football players , let em play". (That's all I heard )

Abner #5 , was laying the wood all night !

Add in the trap/misdirection runs and you have it. That's their playbook. And it keeps winning state titles.

 

If you run a QB draw , every other play , I hope your deep at that position !

Congratulations to Highlands! It sounds like the team really played well in the second half. Perhaps being down at halftime to Dixie in the playoffs really got the guys fired up! Also, kudos to Dixie for having a very solid year... I suspect they would have gone a lot further in the playoffs this year had they not been in the same district/region as HHS.

Talent will only get you so far. The Dixie QB's temperament isn't suited for a big time QB IMO. He's has a cannon for an arm and can run through people ala Tim Tebow. That's where the comparison ends though. I think that's why he is being recruited as an athlete vs. a straight QB. QBs are the team leader and simply cannot lose their cool in big games.

You're right Nees...It certainly wasn't a one-sided side show. Penalty flags were flyin at the Bluebirds also....

And I have been a big Pike supporter all year ... but horst is right on this. It is time for Pike to show some maturity. The challenge for him is everyone knows his temper/maturity issue and loves to try and get in his head so he has to work even harder to control it.
