Roger Walz is a good example coach I guess I should have said current coaches. Don't know much about Wolfe other than his Male team has a good draw this year. Lickert is a fine coach but time will tell they both get to move into a district with the best teams in the state. This year Male would finish 4th in the district they are heading to.

This play although it is what most coaches teach is actually against the rules. Very few refs call it but you are not allowed to hit a reciever that is in a pass route. If you do not believe me look it up, or ask a ref that knows the rules. I didn't know it was illegal until a few years ago when I saw it called and ask an official I know. I can't remeber what the pentaly is but I will try to find out.

You just said exactly what needed to be said. Ask Dale where they'd be with facilities like Dixie. Highlands has the desire to be successful regardless of what they have. Desire is not something you talk about either! You and Mike Brown are the only people I know that are content with new diggs that are happy to be .500 or less. With the talent and size that Dixie has every year they should be contenders! 6-6 to me isnt a contender...it's a pretender!! Do you know what would happen in Fort Thomas if Highlands had a 6-6 record?? Someone would be given an all expense paid one way vacation outta town.

 

Although I think Dale is a great coach, do you really think you can compare the talent that Highlands has with the talent Dixie has? Highlands might have a smaller enrollment but young men go to that school to play football and you can not compare the size of the schools in my opinion. Maybe look at the percentage of kids that play football. Year in and year out Highlands has the most talent in NKY. If you doubt that then just look at how many kids each school can play. Dale said in the paper he plays 16-17 guys on defense and 15 guys on offense. No one has to go both ways. Dixie has no where near the talent to do that. Dixie had at least 6 or 7 guys that have to go both ways. Why becuase they do not have the "TALENT" to play the other kids. It has nothing to do with the facilities. No one is happy with being .500 but complaining about the couch is too easy of an out.

I thought if the reciever was within 5 yards it was ok as long as the ball is not in the air. Also, I thought if the QB is outside of the pocket the reciever is able to be bumped all the way down the field as long as the ball is not in the air.

 

I dont know the circumstances of what happened in this instance though.

Well since you dont know too much about Wolfe, yet you want to post 2 negative comments about him, how about you check out what he did at Hancock Co and Louisville Waggener.

Then why would you want to see them unemployed? Name one head coach in NKY that graduated from Highlands other than Dale that you deem successful?

 

Because they've reached a wall and are stifling their programs at this point. Spritzky and Thompson might be okay as assistant coaches somewhere, but they're in over their head at this point. Maybe a change of scenery to a school outside of the NKY area.

Name a Highlands guy who is a successful coach?

 

Jeff Barth is doing well. Looks like a fine young coach who is off to a good start to his career.

 

And, regardless of how you feel about Highlands, Tom Spritsky has been a great high school football coach. The wins are one thing, and he has a lot of them, but if you know Tom, what he has done in terms of the development of young people has been Hall of Fame-like. He makes those kids feel so good about themselves every year and he convinces his players they CAN beat Highlands....or any other team for that matter. Thats what a good coach does. He/she has the ability to make their players believe they can achieve at the highest level. I can tell you this. There are not many coaches in the state of Ky that stand in front of their team that say "gentlemen, we can beat Highlands", who don't get smiles, smirks, and comments like, What is coach smokin? Tom is a great for the profession and great for young people. He's a class guy who will always make you proud to call him your friend, or your coach. Just because his record vs. the birds is not great, its not fair to consider him a weak coach. If every head coach was judged by their record against Highlands, a lot of good men would get fired year after year. Tom Spritsky is a great guy. He demonstrates to all his community why its important to conduct themselves with class and character at all times. Tom "walks the walk". He expects his kids to play with class, but more importantly, he models that behavior everyday of his life.....as a father, coach, husband, asst. principal, and as a man. Anyone who thinks Tom Spritsky should lose his job should have themselves tested.

Since when doesnt Highlands have great facilities? That stadium is a fantastic place to play football. Great environment! Big screen TV! Great crowd! Club seating on the school side! Come on!

 

Defenders cannot contact receivers who are "in route". Once they "break" into their route, the contact is off limits. Those hits were helmet to helmet and it is a shame that the referee didnt throw the flag when he was right there to call it.

 

If we fire coaches who cannot beat Highlands, there will be no more high school football.

Maybe not after one season like that ...........But two, and walking papers are being filled out before the football banquet is even over for sure.

Exactly, and as far as being able to get that talent, let us not forget about open enrollment in Kenton Co. And I don't even want to hear about SK taking talent away from Dixie because SK's success is a recent development. Besides Kenton co. is a huge county population wise. The key being that Dixie does not develop their talent once they get to the HS level as much as they could. Much of that is due to the off season program and lack of two a day practices that most teams, even poor teams, participate in here is NKY, and most everywhere else in the State.
