On a historical note, with this game Dixie is now tied with Covington Holmes for being the opponent Highlands has played the most varsity football games against in its history, with 69.

 

Of course, with Highlands no longer being in Dixie's district/class next year (and with Dixie not scheduled to play Highlands in 2011) and with Holmes being in the district with Highlands next year, Holmes will soon re-take the lead.

The problem is Towles throws the ball 90mph everytime he throws it. He needs to learn to put a little more touch on the ball..

 

He did have several balls he threw to the sidlines where lofted the ball right over top of the Dixie defender. I noticed that at least 3 times last night. He has the ability to do it, but I think they need to develop some more inside routes also. The kind that keep the chains moving.

This McCoy kid is quite the capable player. He is too good to be just the back up QB. Many times these boys look good in practice and at the JV level, but doesn't translate to varsity action. Not true here.

 

Dixie has way too much talent to be 6-6 IMO. Looks like many little problems have lead to bigger problems.

And I have been a big Pike supporter all year ... but horst is right on this. It is time for Pike to show some maturity. The challenge for him is everyone knows his temper/maturity issue and loves to try and get in his head so he has to work even harder to control it.

True Story.... the coaching staff hopefully will see the spark he provides when on the field and get him some touches next week. He is elusive and can throw the ball out of the backfield. It would be nice to see him take some tosses and roll out for some deep throws and if it isnt there just let him do his thing with his legs. Two headed monster coming to Johnsonville soon....stay tuned.

I noticed a few other comments about how the players and fans were cheering and jumping up and down at halftime, what are they suppsoed to do? Just sit there? They were fired up, the fans were excited!

 

Maybe, Just maybe Highlands changes at halftime was the reason for the outcome? And not that Dixie got over confident or thought they had the game won?

The Dixie front office may want to look at some changes at the coaching level if they want to win the big games.Its sure not the lack of talent !Although once again the big boy displayed his cowardness amongst his coaches,teammates and parents.On the flipside, with the McCoy kids running and passing ability, what a dynamic duo he would be in the backfield with a run and gun potential with Towles.Looks like starting material to me on atleast one side of the ball. Looked like some secondary changes helped against the passing in the second half. Looking forward competing against any pass threats,I would like to see the Abner kid playing safety not only due to his height but the cross the middle passes would not be a factor after a couple of his clean Knock Out blows-WOW!.

Did anyone see Huddleston X that kid out coming across the middle in the 2nd half? OH MY !!!!!

Just a thought...but maybe there were some parents of seniors that realized that this may be their last game and decided to cheer their team/player on for a great 1st half.

 

After all, how many times does Highlands go to the locker room behind on the scoreboard.

Two good teams that played very hard. Very entertaining. Shame that fans have to criticize coaches and players. The true differene was that Dixie had about 13-14 players playing the game on both sides of the ball. Highlands had 22-26 payers playing only one way. They were fresher in the second half. I dont think it was a tale of being outcoached. In the end, the best team with the most talent won. Congrats Highlands. Although there were a few late hits and personal fouls, I thought the kids showed alot of class on both sides afterwards as many of them talked and congregated on the field for quite some time.

The opposing players and fans cheer so much because it's one of the rare games they have their fans looking right over them. They can hear every comment and cheer. And when things are going right, the kids get pumped.

Too many mistakes at critical times for Dixie all season is the reason the team is 6-6. Yes the talent "might" be there to be better than 6-6 but on the field they performed as a 6-6 team. Dixie played hard tonight but just came up short and got beat by a deeper more talented team.
