Donovan came in with the Birds leading 28-21 from what I heard and then led the Birds to their next two td's, including one on his second play from scrimmage under center. Kid is a player...plain and simple.

 

I think I predicted the Birds to win 42-21. Not too far off but I definetly didn't expect the Birds to be down much of the first half.

 

Heard Pike had well over 200 yards passing, 100 of those to Leonard, and around 100 to Cohorn. Bruns didn't seem to have a good night from what I heard.

 

BTW, I just saw the highlights on WLWT and man Gold's td to get the Birds on the board was a thing of beauty. Caught the ball, shook his man by spinning left and was off to the races. Niiiiiice.

 

Off to Johnsonville for a date with the Golden Eagles.

I don't see it that way. They had come from behind to go up 14 or so. Defense was playing well. I just don't see him as the difference. I really can't say any one person was as there were several stars.

 

Donovan was a difference maker. That is not to say that Patrick would not have made a play, only that Donovan did. Patrick made some great plays to bring the Birds back before being injured as well. Patrick is a leader. He should be in at QB if healthy. The defense will need some adjustments against JC IMO. Would like to see Nienaber in at LB a little more. Anyone else pick up on that tonight? They will need some help at LB, more size, next Friday. Would expect to see more 4 man front too. Just my opinion.

Heard Pike and another player bumped in to one another, word were exchanged, Pike pushed the Highlands player, more words were exchanged, then Pike lost his cool and was ejected.

 

And let's just say that the words being exchanged by one of the players were words that would make you look at your kiddies and say "earmuffs."

Does Highlands have more plays in their playbook other than QB DRAW ,BOOTLEG AND 50 YARD BOMBS ? Just wondering ! (It seems to be working !)

I will tell you, Dixie came ready to play. They had a great game plan. They absolutely outplayed HHS in the 1st half. IMO Dixie lost the game going into halftime. I was on the sideline and watched player after player and coach after coach high-fivin each other and waaayyyy to much celebrating. Yeah, it might have been warranted, but there was too much game left for the early celebration. Dixie just didn't finish what they started. HHS had a lot to do with it though. Game was on the line and the boys from FT Thomas stepped up and played their best half of football in a long time. Great job Birds!!! 20n10!!!

Sloppy game for the Birds and Dixie came to play from the start. Dixie took a 21-14 lead into the halftime locker room, helped by a couple of special teams flubs by the Birds and some really stupid penalties, although Dixie played as well as I've seen them play in years. Yeah, I was worried. Dixie kept it close for a while in the second half, but had the usual stupid, pointless meltdown when the game got away from them late. Highlands came into the game banged up, and came out of the game in worse shape. Don't know what to say about Dixie except that the lack of discipline continues to and will continue to hurt them. Who has control of that program? The coaching staff that roams the field in live ball situations?
