If you couldn't see that a sophomore stud came in that game and simply took over for Highlands then either you are blind or people know you and you don't want to single out any players I simply could care less, he saved that game. PERIOD

Highlands D had better step it up for next week. JC's running back will shred them if the miss tackles like they have been all season. It may be time to put the best athletes on the field on both sides of the ball if the Birds plan to make it 4 in a row.

The biggest difference int he game came at halftime when HHS made adjustments and it seemed like Dixie was content. HHS dialed up the defense to generate offense like they have done all year. Once again though for Dixie, they were out coached. What was the deal with Spritzky toward the end of the game he was out on the field for the last three minutes doing a lot of lobbying at the refs? And finally the hit that #5 for HHS laid at the end of the game was an absolute slobber knocker!

Yes, Abner lit that kid up and the way the Dixie fans reacted you would have thought it was a crime. If you didnt notice the Highlands Defensive lineman were pulling up before they got to #4 the Dixie backup QB which clearly was the Highlands coaches doing. No need to rub it in their faces up 14 points as the clock was winding down

Great jobs Birds. Dixie did got up on the Birds, but then played like they were scared to death with a lead. Great teams find a way to win. Congrats to Dixie on an improved season from last year 5-7 to this year 6-6.

WR's did have some drops but Patrick was also flinging the ball high a few times.

 

Hits ya in the hands you gotta catch it. Gold has a few more games left in his career the young guys gotta be ready to step up, they have the ability too for sure.

It was kind of like being at Keeneland and watching the novice horse player jumping up and down when his horse is 5 lengths ahead at the first quarter pole only to finish nearly dead last at the finish line.

Yea, their fans stood and cheered and their players were jumping up and down as they ran into the locker room and I shook my head thinking it was the beginning of their end.

 

Lets face it, Pike has a ton fo talent and actually is fun to watch when he is scrambling and finding recievers. He reminds me so much of Ben Roetlisberger. It appears he is in the clutch of a defender and he tosses the ball to a reciever or spins out of a sack. With that said, it did look like he was jumping his teamates in the huddle and having words with not just officials but players and coaches.

 

Gold's TD reception to start the Bird Scoring was a thing of beauty. To catch and then recognize the opening was behind him and spin was unreal.

 

Highlands standouts tonight

Patrick Towles - carried the Birds in their 2nd half comeback. Called his own number several times as he should have and came through until being injured. (Put some of the critics who say he might not be as tough as other QB's if you saw that TD run late in the 2nd half where 3 guys hit him and he still got in the endzone) #51 hit him very hard on that play.

Daniel Gold- outstanding TD catch

Ozzie Sheehan- made some very nice catches and had some nice YAC

Jake True - ran hard all night and scored 2 TD's

Highlands Defense- stopped Dixie on their own 12 yard line taking over on downs with under 5 minutes to play in the game.

Soph backup QB Donovan McCoy- The kid can flat out fly and he plays with a very high running motor. He was a spark to that offense and really saved their bacon if you will.

 

Dixie Standouts

Pike- made play after play after play

Cohorn- some outstanding catches in traffic

Leonard- speedy and a great receiver

Does Highlands have more plays in their playbook other than QB DRAW ,BOOTLEG AND 50 YARD BOMBS ? Just wondering ! (It seems to be working !)

 

Add in the trap/misdirection runs and you have it. That's their playbook. And it keeps winning state titles.

Heard Pike and another player bumped in to one another, word were exchanged, Pike pushed the Highlands player, more words were exchanged, then Pike lost his cool and was ejected.

 

And let's just say that the words being exchanged by one of the players were words that would make you look at your kiddies and say "earmuffs."

 

Talent will only get you so far. The Dixie QB's temperament isn't suited for a big time QB IMO. He's has a cannon for an arm and can run through people ala Tim Tebow. That's where the comparison ends though. I think that's why he is being recruited as an athlete vs. a straight QB. QBs are the team leader and simply cannot lose their cool in big games.

That's funny. I was thinking the same thing at the time... kind of like cheering wildly as the horses come around the grandstand for the 1st time in a 1 1/2 race.
