  1. The new head coach will only be as good as the staff around him. If they have fired the entire staff, this means that the new coach will have to bring in a new staff. Is the administration willing to hire assistant coaches as teachers. Most are not willing to do this. This could backfire on the football program. Unless he gets his new assistants teaching jobs in the school, are they going to be willing to drive 30 minutes to coach football every day?
  2. GREAT POINT !!! The coaches are both "boone county" guys and they run the football. As i said earlier, only difference is Elliot! A couple years ago, the only difference was Ferris.
  3. My stance is this: I dont have have a dog in the fight. I have a problem with someone airing their opinion about the Boone football program when they only attended two games. The only ones who should make this decision are those close to the program. Thompson is a good football coach who had a bad year. It is just too much of a copout to say that Ryle has a better program than Boone. What Ryle has is Travis Elliot. I saw Boone play 3 times and they almost pulled off the upset over Ryle. Game was closer than score. I love the game and you hear every great coach in college and the nfl say - the key to winning is playing great defense, having the ability to run the football and lastly, eliminate mistakes and turnovers. Not one poster has mentioned a word about how many yards and points were given up this year. So I guess I have an issue with the REASONS why a change is needed. I hope Thompson sticks around, finds a better way stop his opponent, and then lets that prehistoric offense do what they need to do!
  4. Boone was a good football team that didnt win as many games as it should have. It is puzzling that they started off with two wins against two pretty good football teams in Henry Clay and Scott County. After lackluster performances to Anderson to Highlands, they kind of fell apart. Maybe its coaching. Maybe its the effort of the players. Who knows? Some of the things being said here are rationalized and some are not. Many teams both in high school and in college win with Thompson's style of offense (Louisville St. X, Winsconsin, Alabama, just to name a few). His run first mentality does work. He did have a good offensive line, and he did have a great running back in Openheimer, and he did have a big TE. The reason that most coaches go to the spread is because they DONT have those types of players. Now obviously the results werent what Boone expected, but he more than likely did what he believed was best. Now should their be gripes about the QB situation, probably! Thompson has some pretty qualified coaches out there and they are good at what they do. They have been pretty productive in recent years with the same coaches and philosophy. As far as comparing to Ryle, Ryle will probably be in the same boat as Boone in past years - getting beat by the big Louisville teams.
  5. In 2004, Ben Guidugli of Highlands (now at UC and maybe will play in the NFL) had 16 catches for 343 yds. They won state that year. For 15 games, that's an average of about 1 reception per game.
  6. I think its funny that you have attended a couple games, and you think that Boone needs a new coach. I can understand you being disgruntled if you played, or your son played, or you go to every game, but really?
  7. Lloyd - Devin Pinkelton, RB Dixie - Jason Hodge, DL Kevin Hergott - Highlands, RB Mike Flesch - CCH, OL Galen Healey - CCH, RB
  8. I think its great that Coach chimed in on the thread. Good luck with your program! Go Tigers!
  9. Have you seen Dixie's weight room? When Coach Spritzky first started, it was an empty classroom. Now it is not much bigger.
  10. Since when doesnt Highlands have great facilities? That stadium is a fantastic place to play football. Great environment! Big screen TV! Great crowd! Club seating on the school side! Come on! Defenders cannot contact receivers who are "in route". Once they "break" into their route, the contact is off limits. Those hits were helmet to helmet and it is a shame that the referee didnt throw the flag when he was right there to call it. If we fire coaches who cannot beat Highlands, there will be no more high school football.
  11. Two good teams that played very hard. Very entertaining. Shame that fans have to criticize coaches and players. The true differene was that Dixie had about 13-14 players playing the game on both sides of the ball. Highlands had 22-26 payers playing only one way. They were fresher in the second half. I dont think it was a tale of being outcoached. In the end, the best team with the most talent won. Congrats Highlands. Although there were a few late hits and personal fouls, I thought the kids showed alot of class on both sides afterwards as many of them talked and congregated on the field for quite some time.
  12. Highlands - Marty Moore Cov Cath - Mike Woolf 2 of the best LBS ever in NKY Beechwood RBs: Tacket, Sieman, Moorlidge, Berger, Williams, Johnson, Vocke, Bankamper, etc, etc, etc. Highlands RB - a ton of them, but Frisk was the best !
  13. Who owned the original record of 574 yards? With that said, I will assume those yards were not gained in a tight game either.
  14. Bobby Leonard had 5 receptions, 133 Yds, 2 td receptions, one deflected pass on the goal line, one INT, punt return for 30 yds, and i think a blocked PAT - oh, and one great block that spring the game clinching TD in the fourth quarter.
