What are your thoughts on him and how the program that was once great, is now crumbling?

The students, faculty and staff at BCHS doesn't care enough about athletics, let alone football, anymore to get rid of coach Thompson. It will be business as usual next year in Florence. Most of the students don't even know who is on the schedule for the football team week in and week out, and they certainly don't attend games.

Didnt they just win the district 2 or 3 years ago? The year Simon went to the finals Boone was the #1.

If just winning districts is good enough and making it to the 3rd round of the playoffs, then why even go on the field. They had great talent that year and didn't use that talent enough at all. There are great players in Boone County on baseball and basketball teams that won't play because they are mostly wide outs and know they won't play because of the run run run. On the basketball team there are 7 guys over 6' 1" to 6' 9"

I believe Boone County should have won multiple state titles. They have had some great athletes and great teams. I think the coaching has been lacking in Boone for years if not decades. If I am not mistaken, Ryle and Cooper students would have gone to Boone County and I would bet many students who now go to Walton Verona had to go to Boone County if they wanted to play football. The athletes they had to draw from is unreal. Until recently, there has not been much competition in 6a and originally 4a from Northern Kentucky. Hopefully the goal is more than to win district over 4 or 5 teams. I have seen a lot of posts here after this weeks playoffs congratulating teams on district and regional championships. That is a loser's mentality. Do you St. X, Trinity, and Highlands puts banners up or patches on their letter jackets that say regional champion. Heck, if those coaches won regional championship 10 years in a row and do not make finals, they would be looking for jobs.

Boone will never change their offense, as was stated above it's a run run run and run offense, they do not utilize anything else, It's been that way for years,a nd students and potential players have lost all interest in the football program.

So what would happen if they brought in a new coach that wanted to open it up and throw the ball? Does anyone in NKY really throw the ball that much anyway?

I know first hand that there are several teams in NKY that throw the ball often, and with some success. Conner, Campbell County, and Simon Kenton all throw the ball quite well. Ryle throws the ball with some measure of success as well. All of these teams play Boone regularly.

 

I agree that Boone needs to develop a QB and a good corps of receivers if they are ever going to be successful.

They don't have to open it up and pass, pass, and pass. But more than twice a game would be nice. I think it is time for some new blood with new philosophy. I believe Thompson served under Owen Hauck for years before he took over. It has been the same offense since the 70's. It's nice when you get a Shawn Alexander but there are only a handful of these game changers in a lifetime. I can not name a Boone quarterback in the last 30 years though.

He has done a good job at the other schools he's been at.

I think that would be a waste of a young coaching talent. He gets more talent at Holmes than he ever would at Boone, IMO. He should wait until one of the really big boys come calling, and they will.

If Lickert becomes coach, I believe that there will be big changes. The changes may not be instant, but he would make things much better than what they have been. I know a lot about him from the time that he coached at Dayton and heard more things about him from others that played football with him. He definitely knows how to inspire and get the best of his players, he has done it at Dayton and Holmes.
