Is Boone County Going To Get Another Head Coach?

I'm not a parent. I have just followed all the Boone County schools for several years, and its a shame how Ryle is just far and beyond Boone. I go to a few games a year, and if I was a parent I would get a group together to try to get some change at least. Your son only gets one shot at high school football.

Yeah, Brown was not utilized at all, which is crazy to think they didn't use him anymore. I looked up Brown's stats on cincinnati.com and he had 10 receptions for 225 yards. That's 22.5 yards per catch. .

Where does that rank him on the season records for Boone receivers? Top 10?

A dynamic head coach can do amazing things; just to name a few:

Kerry Combs- Colerain put them on the map to stay

Chuck Smith- Boyle Co.- also put them on the map, dropped off after his departure, now again a force

Dale Mueller- Highlands- has taken them to new heights

Where does that rank him on the season records for Boone receivers? Top 10?

:laugh::notworthy:

I think Lickert would be a great coach that would make huge changes, and do what Thompson doesn't do at all, which is gets the community involved. Thats one of many things that need to be changed, you have many alumni from Boone that would be willing to help boosters for Boone, but there is no boosters at Boone, heck Boone's football team isn't even on the school's website when I went to looked up the basketball roster Lickert would bring organization and be someone the kids could actually look up to and help make them men which is what a coach is suppose to do

There would be a great chance of the community becoming more involved if he was there. After Lickert's first season at Dayton, there was more community support for that team since back after I barely played, which is when Skirvin and a lot more talent was there. Lickert will be valuable regardless of whatever school he is involved with.

That is an amazing stat. Who in NKY uses a kid with that size and talent as a run blocking TE besides BC?

Actually...............Top 3!!!

From the outside, I see the coaching as a legitimate concern. A one-dimensional offense in this day of high school football will not win games. Some other things I would like to ask: Are the coaches involved with the feeder system? How much involved are the parents and boosters in the program? And finally, what the heck happened to the field? It was the nicest turf around back in the day -- lacking big time. Bottom line, it's a real shame and not fair to those kids who put forth that effort year round. My suggestion is to team up and make changes NOW my friend. You are truly concerned or you would not speak out here. Yake it the next level.

The coaches are not involved in the Boone County Pee wee league. That league is not divided based on geography or what schools kids will attend.

There is a parent group that does things for the boys: decorating lockers, snacks on game days, meals after away games, Sr. gifts. Everything has to go through Thompson. I've been told he will not allow an official Boosters group.

There is a sprinkler system and caregiver for the field. Maybe the drought just took it's toll. All soccer and football teams use the field. Turf is needed but I don't know if there's any planning in the works. Thompson's not the most creative thinker in the world.

I think that would be a waste of a young coaching talent. He gets more talent at Holmes than he ever would at Boone, IMO. He should wait until one of the really big boys come calling, and they will.

Isn't Highlands in their district now? That would be enough reason for him to leave

I think you have lost your mind if you believe Holmes has more talent than Boone.

I think its funny that you have attended a couple games, and you think that Boone needs a new coach. I can understand you being disgruntled if you played, or your son played, or you go to every game, but really?

In 2004, Ben Guidugli of Highlands (now at UC and maybe will play in the NFL) had 16 catches for 343 yds. They won state that year. For 15 games, that's an average of about 1 reception per game.

Boone was a good football team that didnt win as many games as it should have. It is puzzling that they started off with two wins against two pretty good football teams in Henry Clay and Scott County. After lackluster performances to Anderson to Highlands, they kind of fell apart. Maybe its coaching. Maybe its the effort of the players. Who knows? Some of the things being said here are rationalized and some are not. Many teams both in high school and in college win with Thompson's style of offense (Louisville St. X, Winsconsin, Alabama, just to name a few). His run first mentality does work. He did have a good offensive line, and he did have a great running back in Openheimer, and he did have a big TE. The reason that most coaches go to the spread is because they DONT have those types of players. Now obviously the results werent what Boone expected, but he more than likely did what he believed was best. Now should their be gripes about the QB situation, probably! Thompson has some pretty qualified coaches out there and they are good at what they do. They have been pretty productive in recent years with the same coaches and philosophy. As far as comparing to Ryle, Ryle will probably be in the same boat as Boone in past years - getting beat by the big Louisville teams.

Sometimes people confuse "athletes" with "talent."

I agree that Boone consistently has more overall "football talent" than Holmes.

Not really sure on what your stand is on the topic as far as replacing Thompson, but Boone definitely needs to change what they do in order to compete in 6A. With the widespread of new schools, no one school will have a dominate team of athletes, so it's the coaches job to take the athletes that he has and develope a successful program. If that means changing your 99% run scheme that is beyond the point of predictable, then as a head coach swallow your pride, use your coaching staff and produce a system that exploits the talent of your dominant players. I agree, Boone had all the tangibles that you mentioned, but they simply weren't utilized properly, and a few were on the field in positions that they probably shouldn't have been. Nky teams are beating the Louisville big teams, they're just not able to beat the Louisville private school big teams. How many Boone games did you attend this year? Just curious as to what you saw each game.
