I think Lickert would be a great coach that would make huge changes, and do what Thompson doesn't do at all, which is gets the community involved. Thats one of many things that need to be changed, you have many alumni from Boone that would be willing to help boosters for Boone, but there is no boosters at Boone, heck Boone's football team isn't even on the school's website when I went to looked up the basketball roster Lickert would bring organization and be someone the kids could actually look up to and help make them men which is what a coach is suppose to do

15 years ago it was always Cov Cath, Highlands, and Boone County. Don't hear much of Boone these days. Maybe a change is needed. But I have to admit it isn't always the coach that is the problem.

Time for a change Imo. Like SOG said, too many athletes at Boone that don't even come out because it's a boring 1 dimensional brand of football.

I talked to someone very close to the program Friday night and they said Thompson isn't going anywhere and Lickert isn't an option.

 

The only thing the Boone Co administration is doing is sending around questionnaires asking what they can do to improve the football team. Now this is hearsay, but the person who gave me the information is very reliable.

A) Less football players going through the school; 2 new high schools built in Boone County in the last 20 years.

B) Since we are measuring success in 6A state championships, when is the last time a state title was won in 6A or the former 4A for that matter?

They've got about the same number of students. The county is growing in great amounts; that's why they're building new schools, and this prehistoric offense is why they haven't won a championship. For them not to win with someone who played in the NFL, and named MVP of the league, should be a huge sign that the offensive scheme doesn't work.

 

And how is a questionnaire going to help these athletes out? The principal should know what is wrong, or ask other coaches on the staff what they think. I just feel bad for these players, like Trevan Brown, who were not utilized enough at all. I also heard that there was alot of controversy over his son playing QB.

To say the least....I know for a fact that there were several sophomore/juniors who came out for the team and then quit because of the decision.

Ryle has clearly passed Boone as the top dawg in 6A, Boone needs to change some things up.

The biggest problem at Boone is coaching. And second, his son playing Qb. His son has no talent at that position whatsoever. Boone had two of the best athletes in NKY this season in Jordan Oppenheimer and Trevan Brown. They failed to use Trevan at all. I'm quite sure he had less than 10 catches this past season. An athlete like that should get targeted 10 times a game. Oppenheimer didn't have the chance to use the talents he has. Every team knew Boone was no threat to throw the ball so they put 8 in the box and shut him down. Another problem is there scheduling. They played the best 5A school Highlands, Ryle (who beat Highlands), Henry Clay, Scott County (in the semi finals now), Anderson (an Ohio school that no team from NKY can beat), and Simon Kenton who has been on the uprise. Boone started the season off great with two huge wins. But when you have to play Anderson, then Highlands and get smacked it brings down the players confidence. I believe the scheduling for next season is being done by one of the assistant coaches instead of Thompson. I believe Thomspon will be there next year but after another disappointing year he will and should be gone. I believe the schedule for next year has Cov Cath, Cooper, Conner, on the non-district schedule. Not sure about the other two.

I've heard from several sources Thompson is gone this year but time will tell. If its true that they are sending out a questionaire, to whom? That's the stupidest idea I've ever heard of. If your program is in that bad of shape, just get rid of the guy and get a new coach.

Yeah, Brown was not utilized at all, which is crazy to think they didn't use him anymore. I looked up Brown's stats on cincinnati.com and he had 10 receptions for 225 yards. That's 22.5 yards per catch. I'm glad he is playing football on the D1 level though.

From the outside, I see the coaching as a legitimate concern. A one-dimensional offense in this day of high school football will not win games. Some other things I would like to ask: Are the coaches involved with the feeder system? How much involved are the parents and boosters in the program? And finally, what the heck happened to the field? It was the nicest turf around back in the day -- lacking big time. Bottom line, it's a real shame and not fair to those kids who put forth that effort year round. My suggestion is to team up and make changes NOW my friend. You are truly concerned or you would not speak out here. Yake it the next level.
