I was curious about the stats so, I went to the KHSAA website and looked up the stats for Boone this past season. According to the stats Boone ran the ball 465 times compared to passing 100 times for the year. I don't know about you, but that doesn't seem like a recipe for winning games.

I didn't have Schwartz' 334 yards passing included. So they had 860 total.

Interesting in the way you broke it out....the top 4 teams made the playoffs, the bottom two didn't.

NKY 6A rushing yards:

Ryle 3877 (13 games)

SK 1877 (13 games)

Campbell Co 781 (11 games)

Conner 1278 (11 games)

Boone 2080 (10 games)

Cooper 2519 (10 games)

Balance to the offense seems to be the key.

Absolutely, but if you are going to heavy one way or the other, at least this year, with these six teams, passing was the way to go.

Balance to the offense seems to be the key.

See how many "balanced" teams will be playing/winning the state finals. By balanced, I'm guessing you mean 50/50 or close for run/pass?

Not at all.

I mean not so one-sided. It can work but I'd say it's the exception and not the rule.

Not really sure on what your stand is on the topic as far as replacing Thompson, but Boone definitely needs to change what they do in order to compete in 6A. With the widespread of new schools, no one school will have a dominate team of athletes, so it's the coaches job to take the athletes that he has and develope a successful program. If that means changing your 99% run scheme that is beyond the point of predictable, then as a head coach swallow your pride, use your coaching staff and produce a system that exploits the talent of your dominant players. I agree, Boone had all the tangibles that you mentioned, but they simply weren't utilized properly, and a few were on the field in positions that they probably shouldn't have been. Nky teams are beating the Louisville big teams, they're just not able to beat the Louisville private school big teams. How many Boone games did you attend this year? Just curious as to what you saw each game.

My stance is this: I dont have have a dog in the fight. I have a problem with someone airing their opinion about the Boone football program when they only attended two games. The only ones who should make this decision are those close to the program. Thompson is a good football coach who had a bad year. It is just too much of a copout to say that Ryle has a better program than Boone. What Ryle has is Travis Elliot.

I saw Boone play 3 times and they almost pulled off the upset over Ryle. Game was closer than score. I love the game and you hear every great coach in college and the nfl say - the key to winning is playing great defense, having the ability to run the football and lastly, eliminate mistakes and turnovers. Not one poster has mentioned a word about how many yards and points were given up this year. So I guess I have an issue with the REASONS why a change is needed. I hope Thompson sticks around, finds a better way stop his opponent, and then lets that prehistoric offense do what they need to do!

Good point. You had to be there to make an accurate asessment. It was the consensus each week in the stands and on the ground that Thompson was not making good football decisions to allow the Rebels to win. I agree Thompson is a good coach, but a good coach needs to break norm and make good decisions when needed. A major problem was refusing to play some key players on both sides of the ball, piling up the offense and leaving some soft spots on the defense. Boone was in several games for the first half and failed to do what most coaches will automatically do and prepare for second adjustments. You simply can't do the same thing for 4 quarters straight week after week and expect to win many games. It's hard to stop an opponent when your offense can't control the ball because they continiously go 3 and out.

Yes Crash, the magic number to "air your opinion" about Boone is 3 games, not two. :sssh::lol:

Not necessarily. Just enough of one to keep the opposing defense from keying on the other would be a great mix.

So thru 10 games Boone had almost as much passing yards as Ryle did thru 13 games?

By the way Ryle basically runs the same run offense as Boone, they(Ryle) just run it out of the gun.
