acemona
Should we quit using our number system since it endorses the Muslim traditions?

True blue (and gold)
As far as astronomy, many ancient cultures, including the Chinese, Egyptians and Native Americans, contributed greatly to the development of astronomy. Most star names are still referred to by their Arabic name, due to their study and cataloging, using observatories that were quite impressive at the time. True blue (and gold)
You sure the Chinese or Egyptians weren't first? Don't leave out the Meso-Americans. Who really knows who was first with astronomy. Ancient people used star patterns, based on the season cycles, to know when to plant and harvest crops, thus beginning the study of astronomy. MJAlltheWay24
So then we are right, right? Acemona shouldn't be claiming that Muslims invented Astronomy. Numbers are still up in the air lol.
PepRock01
Well numbers did exist long before the Persians were forcibly converted by the Arabs following the Battle of Kadisiya. The Sumerians are responsible for our understanding of time in multiples of 60. Not sure if they managed to invent the concept of 0 however. Not many ancient cultures managed it, not even Rome believe it or not. The Maya did though.
