That line up would be garbage. If you are going to get rid of our biggest power hitters we have to get something better for them or from somewhere else.

So's the one that they've got now. Besides there's NO WAY the Red Sox will give up Jon Lester and Gabbard for Jr. You might get Gabbard but only if they take Coco Crisp's contract off of their hands.

Our problem isn't hitting with this team. It's not really much of a problem. Hey it wasn't my scenario.

I was looking through the potential free agents after the 2007 season, there are some pretty good players the Reds could pick up. Marlon Anderson,Tony Armas JR, Pedro Astoci, Brad Ausmus, Rod Barajas, Mark Bellhorn,Ronnie Belliard, Kris Benson,Geoff Blum, Milton Bradley, Russell Branyan, just to name a few. If the Reds could have a good free agent off season and with Hamilton getting better and Bailey and Votto, come next year they could be pretty solid, but as for this year, Hamilton needs to get healthy, Bailey needs to come up.

I'm still waiting for you to name any GOOD free agents. Is Roger Dorn available? These guys aren't good free agents, they're just free agents.

The Reds already tried the "Russell Branyan" experiment. Russell has been with 5 teams in his career for a reason, he strikes out more than Adam Dunn, which is actually an accomplishment.

Being a White Sox fan, I will always remember and be thankful for what Geoff Blumm did in Game 3 of the World Series, BUT he is a 35 year old utility player who has a lifetime average of 250, he is batting 216 this year in limited time.

Reds aren't going to spend a lot of money in free agency, I would assume they might try and keep Hatteburg around, we shall see how Dunn situation plays out. If the Reds go after anyone it would be a first basemen or maybe a starting pitcher or reliever. I would like to see more done, but that's my best guess.

Mark Belhorn is playing for Louisville already, and the rest of the guys on that list are has beens, or never weres. They Reds don't need any more of those.

Well do the Reds have the money to go after players like Alfonso Soriano? or Carlos Beltran? the Reds dont have the money. The Reds dont have to have 9 NL all stars starting do they? Ronnie Belliard isnt washed up or anything, he could help the reds out a lot, all of those players could. Theres a lot more potential free agents, but I mean, if the Reds keep it up, who would want to play for them? David Eckstein will be a free agent, and so will Shea Hillenbrand and Livan Hernandez. Players like that could help the reds out a lot.

Where are you going to play Belliard, Eckstein or Hillenbrand? What the Reds have now are better than all three of those options.

They don't have to have 9 All-Stars playing for them but it would help if they spent money on useful players. Here's the stats of the players you've proposed so far:

Marlon Anderson .222 0 HR 0 RBI

Brad Ausmus .242 0 HR 6 RBI

Rod Barajas .217 2 HR 5 RBI

Ronnie Belliard .281 2 HR 13 RBI not as bad as the others but he weighs about 250 lbs. and plays the same position as one of the Reds useful players.

Geoff Blum .186 1 HR 4 RBI

Milton Bradley .275 2 HR 6 RBI plus there's always the possibility that he might break a chair over one of his teammates heads.

Russell Branyan .235 4 HR 12 RBI 19 Ks in 51 at bats

David Eckstein .277 1 HR 9 RBI while Gonzalez is at .267 1 HR 10 RBI and can actually throw the ball all the way to first base.

Shea Hillenbrand .236 2 2 HR 15 RBI and is on his 5th team in 5 seasons because no one can stand his personality.

Mark Bellhorn you've already got in Louisville.

Tony Armas Jr. 0-3 8.19 ERA

Kris Benson is out for the season with shoulder surgery and may not pitch again.

Livan Hernandez is 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA this year but he's 128-119 for his career with a ton of mileage on the arm, if you'd like to spend 8-10 million a year on him then you probably should be the GM for the Yankees.

This mess is not going to be fixed via free agency. Its going to take 3-5 years and a commitment to fixing the minor league system.

ok, well what was Brandon Phillips when the Reds got him? in 2005 his batting avg. was .000. He was 0 for 9 with the Indians. His batting avg wasnt around .360, he didnt have over 30 home runs or over 70 RBI, but the Reds got him, and now look at him. What was Gonzalez when the Reds got him? He was hitting .255, with 9 HR and 22 RBI, he wasnt around .350 either or over 30 homeruns. How about Aaron Harang? The Reds got him in 2004, after he had went 1-3 in 2003, with a 5.34 era, and just 26 K's. They got him half way through the year, but he wasnt 4-0, with a 2.00 era and over 50 K's at that time. The Reds need some help, and they cant seem to get it right now. Players like that, could help the Reds, a lot.

Those players you just named the Reds got were young minus Gonzo. All the Free agents you listed are old washed up player.

Well all im saying is they need some help, on offense and defense, thats all. Theres young players they could go after too, they just need help.

See there's the difference: the Reds traded for Phillips and Harang when they were 24-25 years old, inexpensive with some upside. Gonzalez was signed for only 3.5 million a year and was only 29 (he acutally hit .255 with 9 HR and 50 RBI last year). Those 3 are useful players but the free agents you listed would be of no help. If they can make some trades to bring in some younger players that might improve that would be okay but you're not going to improve this team by throwing a bunch of money on 33-35 year old free agents who weren't that good to begin with.
