May 28, 200719 yr See there's the difference: the Reds traded for Phillips and Harang when they were 24-25 years old, inexpensive with some upside. Gonzalez was signed for only 3.5 million a year and was only 29 (he acutally hit .255 with 9 HR and 50 RBI last year). Those 3 are useful players but the free agents you listed would be of no help. If they can make some trades to bring in some younger players that might improve that would be okay but you're not going to improve this team by throwing a bunch of money on 33-35 year old free agents who weren't that good to begin with. That is true, and young players like Phillips and Harang would help, but it would be tough for the Reds to trade and get them.
May 29, 200719 yr I'm still waiting for you to name any GOOD free agents. Is Roger Dorn available? These guys aren't good free agents, they're just free agents. I would sign Brad Ausmus in a HEARTBEAT. We need a balanced catcher, BAD!
May 29, 200719 yr I would sign Brad Ausmus in a HEARTBEAT. We need a balanced catcher, BAD! What's balanced about Ausmus? He can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag...
May 29, 200719 yr Ausmus is 38 with a career 250 average, no home run power, doesn't drive in a lot of runs. Ross just turned 30, career average 230, but he hit 21 homers last year, might get close to that this year. I'm not the biggest fan of Ross, but he is younger and better than Ausmus.
May 29, 200719 yr That line up would be garbage. If you are going to get rid of our biggest power hitters we have to get something better for them or from somewhere else. That's what the freed up cap room would be used for....
May 29, 200719 yr That's what the freed up cap room would be used for.... Baseball has a salary cap. :sssh:
May 29, 200719 yr I was looking through the potential free agents after the 2007 season, there are some pretty good players the Reds could pick up. Marlon Anderson,Tony Armas JR, Pedro Astoci, Brad Ausmus, Rod Barajas, Mark Bellhorn,Ronnie Belliard, Kris Benson,Geoff Blum, Milton Bradley, Russell Branyan, just to name a few. If the Reds could have a good free agent off season and with Hamilton getting better and Bailey and Votto, come next year they could be pretty solid, but as for this year, Hamilton needs to get healthy, Bailey needs to come up. Isn't he with the Reds right now???
May 29, 200719 yr The Reds need to bring up Homer Baily first of all. Also, bring up Livingston, and bring back up Coffey and Salmon. Release Mike Stanton. Trade Dunn, Milton, Conine, and Ross for a decent reliever, maybe Cla Meredith and Justin Germano from the Padres. Fire Narron and hire Joe Girardi. Trade Ross, if can not trade im in above, for something and start Moeller, he is a better defensive catcher in my opinion, plus Ross is having a horrible year. These trades would help a lot for the future and now even.

May 29, 200719 yr The Reds are struggling right now and the pitching, is woeful. I've stated before, I think they will get going, hopefully sooner than later. With that said, the defensive effort from E and G, were outstanding yesterday and tough seeing Freel, getting hurt. I'm not sure what took place, to get that effort but it was outstanding and Lohse was extremely impressive. I'm a fan of Narron and like him but, sometimes new energy is needed, if you can't fire the talent. The energy was there yesterday and if it continues, can help get the Reds ready, for the road trip. Better pitching, will equate to better games.
