There are no automatic first downs in high school football. So the call was half the distance making it 1st and 3 for the Colonels at the 7 yard line.

That statement is not true. Roughing the QB, Roughing the Kicker, Roughing the Holder, Roughing the Center on kicks are all automatic 1st downs!

  • Congrats Covington Catholic, you have a lot to be proud of tonight.

  • Congratulations Covington Catholic on a very well played game.  They had a great game plan and at the end won the game.  Good luck going forward!  I knew this was going to be a game!

They were, but that’s an incredible slight  to CovCath IMO. The biggest upset EVER? No chance that’s true.

Didn’t mean to slight CovCath but Boyle was nationally ranked and 4 straight state championships to their credit.

Wow definitely shocked by this one!

Heard that the Boyle County fans and scoreboard operators did everything they could to help power the Rebels to victory.

That is not correct.

That info came from the Boyle County video broadcast.

Covington Catholic gets revenge for their defeat in the 2023 AAAA State Finals by handing Boyle County their first home loss in the playoffs since 1993.

The Colonels win 31-28.

Wow that’s  their first home playoff loss in 31 years! That is one crazy insane stat!

Was at the BG game and news of this one started popping up.  The BG radio guys were watching this game on someone's phone.  And this was during the BG game (now BG had the running clock going but still).  That is how uncommon it is for Boyle County to lose when Mr. Quisenberry has put on the Rebels uniform.  And I mean everything from state championship games to 7v7.  Just an incredible athlete and even more so competitor.

I agree with @hrcarrier and think outside of CovCath's State Championship games this has to be right at the top for all time wins.  I mean Regional Finals on the Road vs the team that beat you for the Championship the year before!  WOW!  The CovCath Coaches did an incredible job preparing this team for this game.  BG has faced CovCath before and it was always a very tough game.

Tip of the hat for all the CovCath fans on this site!  You guys are a dedicated bunch, and I appreciate that.  Enjoy this!  Doesn't happen often like this.  You have had a very tough road already Johnson Central, Boyle County and now going to a very underrated Franklin County Team will be tough.  But this team can do it!  Good Luck!

And a final tip of the hat to the Rebels and their equally dedicated fans who are a big part of this site as well.  I honestly didn't think Quisenberry would ever lose in a Boyle County uniform.  Very tough loss no doubt, but man what a ride you guys have been on!  Hope you can enjoy that at least a bit!

Tough end to some great players in black and gold. I thought the CCH OLine was superb and the difference in the game. Hats off to Colonels!  This will always be a painful What If? For Rebel Fans. Good Luck to Colonels the rest of the way.

I understand.  I saw the reference a couple of places, but it's not correct.

It's not true.  Would be an unbelievable stat, but it's not correct.

Stunned!

But congrats to CovCath.

Just goes to show you what I have said many times before...that 50-game winning streak by those Dennis Lampley teams at Trinity might be a record that is never broken.

Congrats to CovCath on their National Championship!

Someone is mad and this is coming from a Bluebird. Congrats Cov Cath!

Hope this isn’t breaking the rules Guru.

let everyone decide for themselves. One play however is not the only reason for this game’s final score. ?

We appreciate you as well, Purple. A staple of this site.

I agree, it’s quite the feat what Cov Cath did tonight, a truly valiant effort. Our mantra incarnate on the field. Total warriors. Without a doubt, this win will be cherished — an amazing victory against a behemoth of an opponent.

However, I agree with @Voice of Reason; Cov Cath must focus on the ultimate goal, which means planning for a very tough Franklin County team next week. The results of this week would be even better if Cov Cath could accomplish what they fell short of last year.
