Open Job: Simon Kenton

PRP, Henry Clay, Southern and Dunbar are 6A programs.   Replace little Highlands, CovCath, Beechwood, Corbin, Ashland, etc. with them. That’ll satisfy everyone.

And to be fair, I can make an equally compelling case for the other side.  Point is, ADs and head coaches may know nearly as much about how their teams should schedule as the rest of us - ol’ pops included - do.

Calpreps dynasty ratings that use years all the way back to 2003 has Simon Kenton 20th in the state. Dynasty ratings going back 5 years has Simon Kenton 43rd. Have fell off the last 5 years but historically the program has potential to be better.

Any 6A school that wants to try and move toward the Top Tier 6A schools - Male, St. X, Trinity, Manual, Frederick Douglass, and in the last few years Bryan Station, needs to schedule AT LEAST 2 of theses schools (or similar schools like Elder, Cincy X, Bowling Green, Boyle County, etc) each season. Until you play a couple of these PHYSICAL teams in a season, you are not prepared for their physicality at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball…..no matter how many times you have played Ashland, Corbin, Beechwood, Central, etc.

My take is a 6A school probably shouldn't be scheduling schools 3A and below. However, there is an art to scheduling and, as somebody pointed out, it's not like there are a lot of 6A schools in NKY to play that aren't already in your district. But you have to think D-II or D-III Cincinnati teams would be lining up to play SK.

All that being said, I've always felt SK is a sleeping giant. Half the battle is community support, and they have an abundance in Independence. I am assuming they have they would have the support of the administration as well, but somebody else would have to confirm. Assuming the administration is on board, the right coach could establish a very strong program in Independence. Trinity/X/Male strong? Maybe not, but a notch below that would still make for a strong program.

Let's not forget SK had scrimmaged X for years and few years ago.

That's bold to say many of these teams didn't have a pulse.  I'm surprised their fan bases let you get away with such blanket statements.

At the end of the day this IMO would be a very good job, and should be a pretty attractive job for coaches IMO.

I'm like a little kid waiting for Santa to come and give me a great present. I hope it is not coal!

They didn't have a good D-Cordinator. I have said many times.

How would you describe a good defensive coordinator? How do you become a physical team? What is the process that leads being a "good d-coordinator?"

Nobody anywhere in this thread - aside from you - has ever made any mention of any teams being "without a pulse."

It seems like it would be pretty unusual for any team's fan bases to get bent out of shape with Deuce for comments he never made.

Big and soft.

That's how you could almost always categorize SK over the last decade or so. Every time you'd see their guys they met the eye test, and could never do anything beyond that against teams with a pulse.

A decade or so?? I'm going to say 12 years is a decade or so.  Simon Kenton had 104 wins in that time.  That's a whole lot of teams without a pulse.  I'm pretty sure the majority of the teams in the state would love to have that many wins.

Simon Kenton has a decades-old (yes, plural...decades) track record of scheduling a whole bunch of teams from smaller and lower-classed schools to fill out their non-district schedule and hanging their hat on those wins. Looking exclusively at the number in their wins column has always managed to appease a lot of the folks in Independence for some reason or another. But then when you look at the teams Simon Kenton is unable to consistently beat, and when you look at their historical post-season performance, that gives an entirely different perspective on where the program stands at Simon Kenton...and it's something a whole lot of the Pioneer fans have historically seemed happiest to just ignore.

This is the exact order in which the post were made.  But keep saying it with such confidence...  You literally jumped in on my rebuttal to his post.

Well I heard they rarely practice tackling drills if that tells you anything.

If SK is serious about trying to get to championship level football, then this seems to be a crucial hire and it needs to be an outside hire. The in- house hire of Lucas seems to have stepped SK back from just outside the 6A top tier to middle of the pack. Fresh eyes and new perspective may put more focus on the defensive side. Just my two cents from an outsider's view.

Hearing a coach from Georgia with local ties is applying for this job!
