When in the past 15 years has SK had a good defense? What coaches were in charge if that defense?

I wonder if @MaddenCurse44 would be ok with that? If I remember correctly, you aren’t much of a Ryle fan right now.

I'm fine with that they coach defense over there.

He is this week. ?

The Pioneers return alot of good football players.

What the new coach will have to work with 4 returning receivers 4 returning rbs 2  lineman that started on offense. They 4 kids who could be the next QB. 2 of the receivers where top 6A leaders in stats.

The defense returns 3 linemen that started. 3 linebackers return and  1 db returns.

The issue for SK has been their lack of physicality compared to the stronger teams in Louisville and Lexington. Because of that, SK cannot run the ball and put together long drives, keeping the other offense off the field, nor can their defensive line control the line of scrimmage. I looked at a 5 year stretch (Marksburys better teams) leading up to the COVID year of 2020. SK was knocked out of the playoffs by Louisville and Lexington schools as follows:  42-28 by Lafayette; 63-41 by Lafayette; 49-17 by Trinity; 56-28 by Scott County; 47-8 by Tates Creek. The next SK coach must ramp up their lack of physicality on both sides of the ball or they will never be in the discussion for top tier 6A teams.

Sounds like the cupboard still has some nice China on the shelves.

The teams that eliminated SK how did they finish in the playoffs?

Lafayette one of those years played for a state title. Tates Creek got eliminated by Male in the semifinals. The Scott Co team might have been the one that lost to Male in the state finals. Trinity is Trinity and probably won or played for the title that year.

I’m sure any team to be a top tier team (in pretty much any class) has to be physical. I’m not necessarily disagreeing that they need to be physical or more physical than they have been the last few years. I’m just saying they weren’t getting eliminated by the sisters of the poor.

6A is tough. Trinity, Male, St X, Douglas and then whoever goes on a run. It will be interesting who applies and then who gets it.

Simon Kenton in Lucas' second stint:

2021: 2-9 (First Round loss vs Dixie Heights, 38-7) - DH lost to Ryle in 2nd round

2022: 9-4 (Second Round loss vs Trinity, 51-20) - T lost to Bryan Station in QFs

2023: 5-5 (First Round loss vs Fern Creek, 36-32) - FC lost to Male in 2nd round

2024: 4-7 (First Round loss vs St. Xavier, 48-13)

that's' a 20-25 record and with no postseason run lasting more than two rounds.

I have always viewed SK as a good program with plenty of potential but always on the cusp outside those top-tier teams in 6A. They were, under Marksberry, in the title game in 2008 and had to beat Male to get there.

One of three 6A schools in NKY. Should be very interesting to see who gets this job.

They need to find someone that is possibly younger and/or full of energy , defensive minded approach, and needs to be able to persuade Lucas to comeback and call the offensive. Very curious to see the names that get interviews.......

Lafayette made the state finals both of those years they beat SK in the playoffs (15', 16'). SK is a very respected football program to everyone outside NKY. Coach Lucas and Coach Marksberry are some of the best! I hope they make a good hire.
