The issue for SK has been their lack of physicality compared to the stronger teams in Louisville and Lexington. Because of that, SK cannot run the ball and put together long drives, keeping the other offense off the field, nor can their defensive line control the line of scrimmage. I looked at a 5 year stretch (Marksburys better teams) leading up to the COVID year of 2020. SK was knocked out of the playoffs by Louisville and Lexington schools as follows:  42-28 by Lafayette; 63-41 by Lafayette; 49-17 by Trinity; 56-28 by Scott County; 47-8 by Tates Creek. The next SK coach must ramp up their lack of physicality on both sides of the ball or they will never be in the discussion for top tier 6A teams.

Big and soft.

That's how you could almost always categorize SK over the last decade or so. Every time you'd see their guys they met the eye test, and could never do anything beyond that against teams with a pulse.

You can only do so much at the high school level, but a quality to high end strength, condition and nutrition program would go a long way here. More than other programs.

This is a good job for the right candidate.

Oh NOW they don't have a good defense... LOL

They didn't have a good D-Cordinator. I have said many times.

That is funny I guarantee no body said that after going against Aba Selm last year or the 3 other years he started.

A decade or so?? I'm going to say 12 years is a decade or so.  Simon Kenton had 104 wins in that time.  That's a whole lot of teams without a pulse.  I'm pretty sure the majority of the teams in the state would love to have that many wins.

Simon Kenton has a decades-old (yes, plural...decades) track record of scheduling a whole bunch of teams from smaller and lower-classed schools to fill out their non-district schedule and hanging their hat on those wins. Looking exclusively at the number in their wins column has always managed to appease a lot of the folks in Independence for some reason or another. But then when you look at the teams Simon Kenton is unable to consistently beat, and when you look at their historical post-season performance, that gives an entirely different perspective on where the program stands at Simon Kenton...and it's something a whole lot of the Pioneer fans have historically seemed happiest to just ignore.

Did a quick little search on the KHSAA site...

Since 2012, SK has 107 wins. 42% of those wins (45) have come against teams from lower classes.

Selm was a great player.

DOZENS of others were not like him and fit that that mold exactly.

Name them... Go back through the last 12 years and show me the "whole bunch of teams from smaller and lower-classed schools to fill out their non-district schedule"  So out of the 7 non-district games tell me the 4 or 5 teams a year that are soft opponents.  Also name the teams outside of Trinity that they are "consistently" unable to beat.  It's easy to restate talking points without the specifics to actually back it up.

Disagree last year's running back lead 6A in rushing. You have to be a physical team to do that. Nice try though keep digging.

They should have started playing up more back then and maintained or improved it over the time it happened. SK did clearly play many games with opponents beneath the caliber they should have been playing.

I don't need to dig brother, we all know SK's record around here.

And you've listed exactly two players. LOL
