You have to hire Reed Sheppard as a player/coach.  Hope he starts himself.

Always interesting when people try to say Calipari doesn’t develop players. The majority of players that stayed more than one year got much better every year under him. Then even players that weren’t

They flew his family to and from Lexington but didn't offer him anything? Come on.

Sure. Because they are ready to offer doesn't mean they actually put an offer on the table. I am one of the last people that would defend anything Matt Jones says, but everyone knows getting money from UK is not an issue in this. No doubt UK wanted Drew, but that doesn't mean they put an actual contract offer on the table.

LOL. Okay.

I love the way Mitch is playing this.    Talk to everyone, but don't officially offer until the 9th or 10 guy says yes.    Then they got the guy on the first offer.

Much of this stuff is semantical. Does offer mean discussing terms or does it mean a contract was written up with pending board approval? These things are discussed and talked about through third parties.

I have no doubt he "interviewed," or whatever that means in the context of a coaching search. From there it would be open to interpretation.

And frankly, who cares? On to the next candidate.

We went through all this "offered" crap with Alabama.  Alabama claimed that the only guy offered was the one who accepted the job.  I'd say that's because no one is offering the job unless they're certain it's a yes, so that they can say exactly this.  Drew probably wasn't offered (wink), but he was offered.

Semantics perhaps.

Probably.

The narrative I'm not accepting that some are trying to push (not here) is that UK wasn't turned down because they didn't "offer." The offer is the courting of the candidate.

So did Oates turn down KY by offering his statement?

Fair point. Is not interested the same as turning down an offer? Semantics and not important IMO. I don't care if it is the 10th person UK talks to, just get someone who will keep the winning tradition going and is capable of winning a title.......

......as long as it isn't Bruce Pearl. Please, please don't make me follow UK with that guy as coach.

Was UK actively pursuing him?

I don't know...maybe there was going to be an original 4 that UK targetted.

There is no telling the amount of talk there is between folks in these situations.

That run he had was so good it was not sustainable. Many people assume if he stayed UK wins three or four more titles under him. Which easy to think that since he left on such a high note. However, if you told people after 2012 that Cal wouldn’t win another title here, people would say you were crazy. If you said 2015 would be the last final four Cal has here after being at four in five years. No way at that time could people have imagined that would be the last one under Cal.  People would have said you were crazy. Pitino left on that high note, so easy for people to assume great things would have kept on happening. He left before things eventually would have came down hill some, since that high level of success when he left wasn’t sustainable.

With that said I do agree it was probably best for both parties to have went different directions. 10 years definitely seems to be the max for a coach here.

One coach I never underestimate is Rick Pitino!
