What's going on at Pulaski County?

You make a good point about how easy it is to use social media to spin a story a certain way without context, but 3 minutes of uninterrupted talking is a long time. Do you have any insight or context that could make this video look a different way?

I agree!  You could easily splice the 3 minute video and maybe have a point of potentially this being taking out of context, for example if you just had the part where he talks about the kids being cancer to the program......but getting a 3 minute video is hard to get spun in the wrong way....Coach needed to take some of his raw emotion out of a end of the year banquet.  Not the time or place to get on a soapbox and say what he said.

Anybody ever been to a sports banquet where the head coach only spoke for 3 minutes and 6 seconds? I sure as hell haven't. I can't imagine that Coach Hines didn't do more speaking about the team at ot

I hope I'm doing this right to get the video to go.

This is getting a lot of talk on FB in the Pulaski Co football community. It's from the Maroons football banquet. Good number of folks feel like this was coach Hines taking the opportunity to pat hisself on the back up at the podium and completely ignore all his players. Alot of people mentioned that he completely disregards mention of the Andrew Dodson, the player who died during spring practice this past April.

Sounds to me like there's got to be a lot of drama going on for a coach to come out like this and directly address all of the players and their parents right to their faces. Not sure if it's the right time and place though. I guess my first thought is to wonder whether or not this 3 minutes was all that coach Hines spoke during the whole banquet. Then also I guess I wonder if this might actually be something that needs to be said, regardless of whether or not the reception to the statement was very friendly.

So what's going on at Pulaski?

Wow. I guess he had enough and addressed it now. He must feel very comfortable in his position.

It will be interesting to watch how this develops in the coming days/weeks.

There is a huge groundswell of opposition that seems to be growing weekly. I think that's what he was addressing, just not sure he handled it in the best way.

His remarks were totally inappropriate at the team banquet!

Is he truly ok with the players “not onboard”  going elsewhere or is he just blowing smoke? If I were a coach and had a player that was not in 100% I would not fight back at all on them going elsewhere.

Nothing will come from this. Next year things will roll on like normal.

Every parent, that I have talked to, said that Pulaski contested their child's transfer. I haven't talked to nearly every parent of a transfer, but every one that I have talked to gives the same story.

Wow, following along here.

A Beechwood coach told me they were opening up with Pulaski County at the Corbin bowl game next year.

Should be a fun one!!!

If not at the banquet then when?  Sometimes when you have all of the interested parties in one place it is better to discuss it.  If it makes the people who like to talk about it in the stands, at the local restaurants or on social media uncomfortable so be it.

I think a good rule of thumb, is when you lose (especially to your crosstown rival) say less, and when you win stay humble.  Not a time to reflect on past success.  Just my opinion.

If I was the principal, I'd be having a conversation with the coach immediately.  I don't disagree with his message but this was not the time or place.   The team and especially the seniors deserved better, especially on a night reserved for celebration of the season and career of the seniors.   With that said, I would not mind if he brought this topic up in a summer meeting with parents as long as it was just a small part of the agenda.

I've watched this a few times because I'm not certain how I feel. First, let me say, parents are a real problem. They create a lot of issues, for coaches, principals, teachers, officials alike, because we all know little Johnnie and little Susie would never act that way, or they are the next superstar at such and such a school. In today's world, we have a lot of "key board cowards", who feel like with social media they have no accountability for what they say, consequently, kids today have very like accountability as well. If my kid doesn't get the ball thrown to him 50-75% of the time or run the ball 50-75% of the time or shoot the ball 25 times a game or whatever the sport, we will go transfer elsewhere. WE all know those types of parents. So when do you address it? Was this the right platform to address it? I don't know, but I have a funny feeling Johnny did what about 90% of all coaches would like to have an opportunity to say.

Yes, 90% would like to say it, but don't.  BIG Difference!  I think it all stems to losing to Southwestern.

My guess is coach has had enough and figured why not right here in front of everyone. This is either a huge mistake or very commendable, depending on how you see it.

It also helps when a coach has been somewhere nearly 30 years. May be retirement eligible (if he already isn’t) and not worried about any repercussions.

As a coach of 18 years, having experience with kids and their parents from ages 5 thru 18 in football youth through varsity, I understand exactly where he is coming from. A miserable group of parents can kill a team from the inside out. Would I have done that at the end of season banquet? Nah, I'd  definitely address it at the beginning of the next season parent meeting though. And, to take it one step further, I would include it in the participation code of conduct contract that I would have each player and parent sign. Then, when Johnny's mom or dad wants to run their mouth on social media or in the stands, they will already know the consequences.
