North Oldham 53 Grant County 47

Grant County's success shouldn't be a surprise to anyone following the 8th Region over the last three seasons.    Joe Utter has done a magnificent job in Dry Ridge, and of course, having a double-double MACHINE in Dylan Hammonds helps!

That said, this isn't a one-man team....it's a blue-collar, get-the-job done, business-like, high-effort group of guys who aren't intimidated by whoever the competition is.     They seem to play well together - and that, in and of itself, is probably the element that some people may have underestimated.

I'm not from Grant County, but I've been very impressed by what's happening at one of the region's largest schools.    The Braves will have a big say in the 8th this year...

Interesting- I had no idea grant was upper half size wise. Just assumed they were small. Still smaller than SK, OC, South and Collins and about same as north but now bigger than Shelby County HS. Size definitely matters in regions like this made up of public’s. Bigger school programs  have no reason not to be at least competitive every year- Shelby the exception because of the unique situation with Collins.

Many years they have all the talent needed to win the region, but are yet to come through since moving down to the 8th.

The majority expected them to come in and dominate the region when they moved in the 2005-06 season, but are yet to get a regional title.

However, that has not came from the lack of opportunity. Here are their stats since coming into the region. This will be their 17th year in the region, so 16 full seasons have been completed.

District Titles: 10 (won it the first 5 years in the 32nd District)

Regional Appearances: 15 (only missed 2 years, most recent one coming last season)

Regional Wins: 8 (6 of the 8 came in the 3 seasons they made it to the championship)

Regional Championship Appearances: 3 (appeared in it the first two years of competing in the 8th region)

So, if you take away their first 2 seasons of being in the 8th region, they have appeared in the regional tournament 13 seasons and have only came away with 4 total wins, advancing to the championship only 1 year. There is no doubt they have dominated at the district level, but have fell short year after year once advancing to the regional level.

Carroll County - 574

Owen County - 557

The biggest school in the 'A' is now Carroll County, Owen County following them, and Walton-Verona following right behind with 549. I would thing that if Owen and Carroll are out of the 'A', WV would most likely join them.

I’d love to see a “per capita breakdown”. SK seems to under achieve while Owen County or Walton Verona over achieves on average.

What do you mean, like this season or over the years? Assuming it is based off size of school when relating to under or over performing?
