True blue (and gold)
I don't think this is correct. Bardstown only has a 3x weekly newspaper, and we have two on the Honorable Mention. Good to know, Heresay. I was hoping that was wrong. There are a lot of quality athletes in small towns that deserve a fair shake at All-State. EKU_05
I was told that in order for a player to be considered for the AP All-State team, that your town had to have a daily newspaper. I know that our town only has a weekly paper. Did this possibly hurt any of the aforementioned players that were not on the list? This is not true. The "town" of Belfry has a fire station, a gas station, zero red lights, and that's about it... no newspaper. The closest newspaper for Belfry is in Williamson, WV and they do not have a vote for the KY AP polls... the Appalachian News-Express in Pikeville covers Belfry but there is not newspaper just for that community. tcjkbt
I guess the voters (unlike some members of the coaching community) must have thought Petrino was tall enough to play, and play well. That's one great thing about high school sports ----- there's still a place for good athletes who don't possess the freakish size or speed. depend-on-me
Belfry gets its publicity by The mountain news express. Which is a pretty big news supplier because i live in Breathitt County and even here they sale them. So Belfry does have newspapers around them. I can't wait to see the Coaches' selections. Another kid I can't believe didn't make it is Casey Earls, this AP All-State didn't do this state justice in my opinion.

CoachBuckett
I feel that smith, was lucky he made the list, just like every other kid on there, I don't know of one of those kids who doesn't deserve the award it does have alot to do with politics and advertising, but chances are if you are getting advertised or people like you, you have done something right. Not sure why you think it was luck he made the list. I feel he deserved to be there just like many how didn't make it.

Qryche11
I think whenever all-state teams of any sort (all-district, all-star, etc.) come out we should have one thread devoted to congrats to the kids named to the team. Then have a different thread to cry and complain about the kids that didn't make it. It does an injustice to the kids on the team to harp on who didn't make it. It is as senseless as rating a team that has been defeated in the playoffs ahead of a team that defeated them. Its as bad as getting defeated and claiming to be the better team. Congrats to all the kids that made all-state, you should be proud. Probably right...but this site would be boring if all we did was say...Congratulations. BGP is basically a site where people can formulate their own opinions. If you want to start a thread where everyone just says GREAT JOB...fine. Nothing wrong with voicing an opinion and also congratulating at the same time. Congratulations goes without saying.. i would never say a kid on the list should not be there.....but I may say something about a kid that is not on the list who should have been there. JMO....not everyone's

I feel he deserved to be there just like many how didn't make it. The rest of my post should have answered that. But.... I will try again the whole state is voting on these kids every team has at least one kid that probably could have a case made to be on the all-state team so they all are lucky that they were selected or considered good enough to even be considered. I am really not trying to put down anyone in particular just replying to a previous post that mentioned him. Sorry if anyone feels that luck is the only reason those kids got there. FHCS the team which I follow had 2 all-state members, I feel they both should have been placed higher, but I also think they are both LUCKY to be on the list period. Congrats to Josh and his family. time2punt
I don't know how many votes it takes to get at least a honorable mention listing and I realize that writers are likely to pick someone they actually witnessed playing over someone else who might be more deserving. However, it would seem that SOMEONE could read the KHSAA website and find a vote for a kid that finished #4 in the state in rushing yds with over 2,000 yds especially if that reporter is going to vote for two players at RB from the same school when neither had more than 1,300 yds rushing. Just think the TEAM has no validity when several of the top 25 in rushing are no where to be found, i.e. Chad Wright, Dalton Cissell, Justin Collins, Ronnie Darden, etc. One RB on 3rd team only averaged 90 yds rushing per game thru the 8 games his coach listed on KHSAA. The AP should not even bother publishing a team!
EastSideJunkie
All State just totally skips over 2AA football How Do running backs like Kasey Clark, Justin Collins, Ronnie Dardin and Justin Collins not even get a vote. and Vic Anderson makes and he played about 8 games this year and didnt even rush for 1000 yards? I'am from lou Western and we had two backs(Collins and Dardin) go for 1900 a piece, and the QB rushed for 1000. That must mean the backs are the best in the state, or our lineman deserved to get some votes. KHSAA football was a joke this year.....for messing up the playoffs, to playing the title games during the week, to giving Doug the Mr. Football title over Nick, when he threw 300+yards on Doug and 4 tds, on the way to the state title which Nick won. Kasey Clark made it on defense. You can only make it on one position from what I was told on the AP team,

gchs_uk9
It's not all about statistics. Lots of backs put up big numbers, and even some great backs don't put up great numbers because of the way they're used. Statistics are one of the worst guages for high school football. Many players play three or four games per year against inferior opponents, putting up huge numbers. Then their offensive scheme can help put up large numbers in other games, often because they are the only weapon on the team. Numbers are important in high school football, but shouldn't be focused on nearly as much as they are at the college and professional level. Jeepman
Every year we go through this complaining thing about the AP. Why do we even care? We all know it's a shoot in the dark by the voters. It's not thier fault either they don't know who the are voting for. They are sports reporters for there area. You will see a big difference when the BGP come out. All players are considered not just the chosen few. That is not a slam on the ones that made the AP either. But when you have arguable the best linebacker in the state and he does not make any team what does that tell you? BGP will make it right for everyone. It would be interesting if BGP all state team came out before the AP. That might help some of the AP voters.
