The Flu Shot is roughly 50% effective.

I honestly don’t even know what to say anymore. People won’t wear masks because it infringes on their “liberties”. People won’t get the vaccine when it’s out because nobody can tell them what to do and vaccines aren’t effective enough anyways (despite science telling us otherwise). People want to develop herd immunity when there is no country on this planet that has developed herd immunity for Covid-19. What do you people want? Do you just want to let people get the virus and see what happens? We all claim to want to get back to normal but still so many people are against doing what it takes to get back to normal. I don’t understand how some people think at all.

Why monoclonal antibodies will be important. They will be available before vaccine. Just hard to produce mass quantities of those quickly but can be given to those hospitalized and keep people from dying.

If Jefferson County does indeed cancel in person classes this fall but Catholic schools reopen as planned on August 12th, what does the Trinity and ST X football schedules look like. Trinity looses Male, Ballard, Eastern. Will they be able to still play the 5 out of state opponents? What a nightmare!

Not even close since a 50% is the acceptable (according to the FDA) "protection rate" threshold of those who do take the vaccine. 

So if half take the wonder vaccine then only 25% will be protected and 75% will not be. 

Lets say 2/3s take it - probably an unrealistic target but lets give it a go.  33% protected 66% not. 

Are these acceptable to return to "normal" and full contact sports?

Right now there are approximately 4.6 million people in Kentucky. There have been 20,600 COVID cases. That’s what I found on the web. Someone do the math and tell me the percentage. I don’t want to sound cold but that to me is not worth shutting everything down for.  The deaths, while tragic, occur mostly to certain demographics. Take extra precautions if you’re in one of those groups. 
If you don’t want to wear a mask don’t go out. It’s your choice. But for God’s sake keep things open and don’t take sports away.  Let us make the choice.

Very good question. I would guess if Jefferson officially goes virtual it will depend on how long they go. Will it be for the semester or for a month? If it’s for an extended period such as to October for example, I would guess that’s a good sign of what the KHSAA will do with fall sports which will be potential flip to the spring.

When you do the math remember that "cases" is a positive test - not a person.  Positive tested people will have follow-up testing that is also positive.  So CASES > People infected. 

Somewhat amazing that the number of actual people infected is not a statistic that is released.

The only time I've had flu like symptoms was when I got the shot for school. The flu vaccine has about a 50% chance of working and its been around for years. So a covid vaccine is less likely to hit that 50% margin, not to me tion that it won't even be here for fall sports unless thats the test run for it. So, fall sports are looking like they won't happen if we are relying on a vaccine or people wearing masks to play said sports.

What you’re saying is what we’ve been told to do. Things are opened back up. We are told to wear a mask. Sports are planning to come back assuming we all have the same goal in mind and will do what we need to allow them back. The less people follow guidelines like wearing a mask, the further and further we get from going back to normal.

I would keep things open and not shut down schools or sports based on the stats that I see. Masks do help but I would not make them mandatory.  

The way I understand things, right now, if the KHSAA leaves it to school districts to decide and JCPS says no along with schools not travelling out of state, a program like Trinity would be left with 4 games.
