Covington Catholic 53 Cooper 49 (9th Region Semifinals)

Featured Replies

It was a great game, with intense defense. Kunkel and Cooper are fun to watch. I've only read one comment that acknowledges Cooper was really playing from behind most of the 4th. Cooper's foul situation set the tone of the entire 4th quarter, and it was legitimate. I think CCH crowd still felt the refs let Cooper get away with alot of holds on Frederick. CCH didn't get shots off bc they were getting aggressively fouled prior to shooting. Runion's body tackle on Frederick near mid court could've been a flagrant. Give Aiden Ruthsatz credit for "managing" the 4th quarter foul situation. He was strong and smart, taking several hard fouls, and hitting foul shots.

Is Cooper and CCH gonna be as dominant in the 9th next year. There both loosing a lot of talent?

Seems like the top dogs are losing a lot. Cov Cath usually reloads instead of rebuilds tho. Newport the only team I can think of that return everyone but 1 starter. Would love to see Holmes hire the right guy and get back to their winning ways. The region seems better and more fun when they're good.

Great game by two well-coached and disciplined top 5 teams in the state. HS sports and everyone who competed last night is a winner. Everyone should be proud to have two teams of that caliber in our community. Best wishes to Cooper seniors moving on and best wishes to Blue Colonels in their quest to win a state championship. Just a whale of a basketball game! Thanks Cooper and CovCath!

HS coaching is primarily about adapting to the “talent card” which you are dealt. I believe Sully is the best at it in NKY.

The fact that student/athletes choose a public district speaks volumes for Sully. CovCath will always recruit itself and have outstanding talent.

I need someone to fresh my memory on the sequence.

Runion drove to the basket. Wasn't there a whistle on the play and THEN Kunkel went up? Was there a foul called against CCH? Was it a shooting foul? I ask because I went back to listen to the Covington Catholic broadcast and there were no foul shots for Cooper. I seem to remember him getting fouled on the drive.

The whistle was before AK hung on the rim. No idea what it was for as nothing but the T was called.

I was sitting in the front row in that end zone and I thought a foul had been called as well because of the timing of the whistle. It seemed Kunkel did hang for a few seconds, but there was traffic underneath him.

The video I seen it looked like the game was nearly a sellout.

You weren't there, nice crowd, I would guess 6,000 to 6,500.

If anyone else posts off topic or in violation of our Terms of Service this thread is done.

It wasn’t clear. If it was a foul on the shot they didn’t have Runion shoot his free throws.

The CovCath radio guys questioned the Kunkel technical.

Sounded like the kind of game I expected it to be. Both teams really getting after it on the defensive end and playing like there's no tomorrow. Wish I could have seen it in person.

Congrats to CCH on the victory, and also to Cooper on a nice run of late, but a special congrats to Adam Kunkel. Really enjoyed watching him play.

There was definitely a whistle. When it occurred, and as I mentioned earlier in this thread, I assumed he was calling basket interference on CovCath for a backboard slap But I guess that doesn’t apply in high school. It seemed like the ref didn’t know what to call after blowing his whistle.

We need some cell phone video to review.

I think the ref was going to call a travel and then called the Technical. While I think it was an okay technical to call, had the referee not called the technical, the Cov Cath coaches would not have complained. No one would have questioned the technical not being called, it was not obvious.

Walter was not feeling well for those who are questioning why he did not play in the 4th Q.
