Covington Catholic 53 Cooper 49 (9th Region Semifinals)

It was a great game, with intense defense. Kunkel and Cooper are fun to watch. I've only read one comment that acknowledges Cooper was really playing from behind most of the 4th. Cooper's foul situation set the tone of the entire 4th quarter, and it was legitimate. I think CCH crowd still felt the refs let Cooper get away with alot of holds on Frederick. CCH didn't get shots off bc they were getting aggressively fouled prior to shooting. Runion's body tackle on Frederick near mid court could've been a flagrant. Give Aiden Ruthsatz credit for "managing" the 4th quarter foul situation. He was strong and smart, taking several hard fouls, and hitting foul shots.

I think the same could have been said the other way around. 23 for Covcath was grabbing, pushing, pulling doing everything he could to try to deny Kunkel getting the ball and rarely was called for a foul. It was a very physical game for sure as both teams play physical. However not sure how as you say some Covcath feel they let Cooper get away with more. When Covcath was in the bonus starting in the 3rd quarter. Yet as physical as Covcath plays, Cooper never even got to the bonus in the whole 2nd half. Would seem to me Covcath got more of the questionable calls to go their way. So just surprising to me to hear you say that, because imo if anything it was the other way around in terms of what was allowed to get away with. Either way two great teams, and Covcath was the slightly better team and deserves to move on. They have a great chance to win the whole thing.

As I said in a previous post the officials let way too much holding and grabbing go on which led to more grabbing and pushing. The defenders were simply doing what the officials let them get away with.

Agreed.

The better team won! The better coaching staff won! The better player won! It’s funny that all I hear on here is about the officials!

What time is the finals?

7pm, introductions start at 6:45 tomorrow.

Better player, better coach!? Lol. That’s great.

It was a consistently officiated game and that’s all you can ask for when two evenly matched and equally well-coached teams hook up. Officiating was not a factor - a missed 3 and one FT separated the top 2 teams in NKY.

Better player, better coach!? Lol. That’s great.

So your saying Cooper is better?

So your saying Cooper is better?

No, he thinks AK and Sully are better than C.J. and Ruthsatz.

All four are really good at what they do. I bristle at the insinuation that Sully is ahead of Ruthsatz. I see them as equals. Folks shortchange Ruthsatz because of the talent he has.

I’d argue Sully had had some pretty darned talented teams too. Am I wrong?

Two great players, two great coaches.

Last I checked, Ruthsatz has reached the 9th Region finals SIX years in a row.

I definitely without a doubt think AK and Sully are better

CCH has 4 players that have college offers on the court yesterday and Cooper had 1 well that’s basketball offers. Not counting the other college athletes on the floor with AJ and Michael both with football offers. So yea I definitely think Sully is better with way less talent.
