Good for you.

Good for you.

Numbers don’t lie CJ Frederick won 2 of three games. He has a higher average, better percentages and better defender.

CCH has 4 players that have college offers on the court yesterday and Cooper had 1 well that’s basketball offers. Not counting the other college athletes on the floor with AJ and Michael both with football offers. So yea I definitely think Sully is better with way less talent.

Good for you.

Good lord. We had a great battle between the top two programs in the 9th and we want to crap over the "other" coach and their players.

I'll take either coach and ALL of the ballers.

Couldn't say it any better, we have been very fortunate here in the 9th for the last few years. Holmes wins state in 2009 , Covington Catholic wins it either two or three years later, Cooper is runner up last year. Covington Catholic has a legit chance to bring a banner back this year. I remember when the 9th had a bad rap of going to state and loosing game one. Let's just enjoy the nice run and not worry about who has the best coach or best player. Heck I don't know who is the best coach or player, both very good. It was a great game to watch in a great arena for the players and fans. Best of luck to all the seniors and best of luck in Lexington to the 9th region team that makes the trip.

Don’t have time to respond to each post but am disappointed how people are comparing players and coaches. Bottom line is we lucky to have this kind of talent in NKY. Iowa or Belmont..who really cares...great dudes who have a ton of mutual respect for each other.

A side note to those killing Jake and his abscence in the 4th: he was/is ill.

Cooper had no answer for the box and 1

As CovCath didn't for the triangle and two?

Coach Ruthsatz out coached Coach Sullivan when he went to the Box and 1. Cooper had no answer for it!

One thing you can do with the Box and 1 and face guarding that CovCath likes to use is to take the player being defended and use him as a screener because he will occupy two players and create a numbers advantage. Cooper did that and it produced 4 wide open looks including two from Runion in his money spot. Just didn't fall. Kunkel screened and slipped one and rattled out a 3 with the game tied, I believe which could have really changed things if they had gotten to the front.

No answer is probably not the right choice of words but it changed the game. Don't recall Cooper setting any picks to get Nowak off Kunkel. Kunkel was setting picks but don't think they set anything to spring him open. Sure they got open looks but isn't that what CovCath was giving up by going to the box and 1. Kunkel had 16 when they went to the defense and finished with 18.

They got looks for shooters...wide open looks. Just didn't fall. That is what you want is open looks versus any defense and they had them.

Why wasnt Jake Walters more involved in this game?

Did Cooper take him it out it?

Did CCH not get him the ball enough?

I would think that a 7 footer would be a difference maker especially when Cooper has no one over 6-4.

Cooper negated him in the second half by going to the spread offense and pulling him from the block on defense. They drove around him and stuck some easy buckets in their run. 35 for Cooper impressed me with his handles for a big kid.

On defense the Tri and 2 allowed Cooper to keep a man near him as they ran Fredrick off baseline screens.

I agree. The only real coaching blunder I saw tonight was Ruthsatz not knowing how to use Walter. If I were a big man, Cov Cath would not be a school I would consider attending.

CCH is really deep talent wise but only plays 7-8. Nowak hit an early three but Ruthsatz and Fredrick only seem to have the license to pull.

No, he thinks AK and Sully are better than C.J. and Ruthsatz.

All four are really good at what they do. I bristle at the insinuation that Sully is ahead of Ruthsatz. I see them as equals. Folks shortchange Ruthsatz because of the talent he has.

I’d argue Sully had had some pretty darned talented teams too. Am I wrong?

Two great players, two great coaches.

Last I checked, Ruthsatz has reached the 9th Region finals SIX years in a row.

Ruthsatz and CCH needed that win last night. Would have been three straight years that they were the favorite and came up short.

Overall, it was a really good game. Competitive and kids laid it on the line. I just find watching Cooper play basketball refreshing. Multi-sport kids (two starters that have high end potential in other sports) that buy-in and sacrifice everything for the good of the team. That starts at the top with Coach Sullivan. They just sit down and guard and are discipline as heck. Strong close outs, plus work their rear ends off to keep dribbler in front. They share the ball on offense and don't care who gets the credit.

You look at their bench and its just Coach Sully and two assistants just grinding with no theatrics or turning to the fans during the game or chest bumping...just doing work.

Best of luck to CCH in representing the 9th. They have an excellent chance of bringing home the hardware. They have tough kids who are disciplined and will be very hard to beat. They have been battle tested and should perform well at Rupp.

Tip of the cap to NKY fans who seemingly turn out every year for the semis or finals. Id say you would be hard pressed to find any other region that spins the turnstiles like they do at BB&T for boys region final or semi final action. Great crowd last night.

It wasn’t a dunk. He was rebounding a missed shot

Sure would like to see a video. Have never seen a player hang from the rim on a rebound attempt.

It does happen, I saw it three times this season and twice it resulted in a T.

My thoughts exactly. There was no need for him to hand at all, and when he did, pretty obvious T IMO. As for the 'traffic' underneath, again no need to hang as he would not have hurt anyone.

Regardless, Cooper did not lose becuause of this play. They lost because they missed shots. Cov Cath missed shots too. CJ missed shots that are normally money. As Coach Cal says, it happens, these kids are not machines. Great game to watch as a fan though. Well worth the $6 ticket.

Only thing I wish was different though, my Colonels are not the type of team that is good at playing not to lose. in that 4th QTR when they started running clock and forcing Cooper to foul, I thought they were gonna lose it. If Cooper would have had a couple more threes, we would have lost. Can not exchange 2 for 3 when you dont have a bigger lead. Also, not enough ball handlers to run enough clock. At least IMO, and the old guys I was sitting with. Anyway, very happy they won, and good look at State!

Definitely worth the $6 admission for this game. 2 great coaches and 2 great teams. Which coach and which player is better? Who cares. As fans we have been blessed with some amazing basketball because of CJ & AK and their respective coaches. As a Cov Cath guy I look forward to watching AK's college career and have no doubt that we will be hearing great things about the future Bruin. AK is flat out a joy to watch create (weather it be for himself or others).

I am very happy for the Colonels and loved seeing them prevail. As many athletes as they have, I am surprised that CJ and Aiden are the only 2 who truly look to score. It seems like whenever anybody else gets the ball they are looking to get it back to CJ or Aiden. One reason that Coopers defense was able to keep Cooper in the game IMO is because they didn't have to worry about anybody else shooting while CCH had to worry about everybody on the floor for Cooper.

Great game by 2 great teams. Bring home the hardware Colonels!
