Indiana 73 Kentucky 67

This should also help shatter the illusion that any neutral site game for UK is, in effect, a home game. The pro-IU crowd was just as loud, if not louder than the UK crowd.

The majority of time it is like a home game for UK. However with Kansas fans also being there and buying tickets for that session, Indiana being there and having a fan base excited to be in the tournament again were willing to spend whatever to be there, then even a small section of UConn fans. For once UK fans were not going to be able to throw a high number at people and buy tickets off of them.

were you the lone IU guy clapping in the food court when they scored?

Nah, he was in section 231 with the Duke fan and both were watching the game on his phone and cracking jokes. :D

You would have a very valid point if college basketball was like the NBA and the playoffs were series and best out of 5 or 7. If he still only had one title then you would have a great argument. However your argument here is very weak and completley ignoring how hard it is to win the college basketball championship. You have to be on top of your game 6 straight games and still hope the other team is a little off or doesn't have a player just go off that day.

As I just said your argument is very weak when even one of the best coaches in the business in Tom Izzo only has one title. Shoot Pitino another great college coach after all his years in college only has 2. You can have the best team and the best coaches and still not win it in college basketball.

Another good example is UNC's Dean Smith. He coached the Tar Heels for over 30 years, with most of his teams loaded with future NBA stars, and was only able to win two national championships. And barely won the two that he did win, thanks to an errant pass by a Georgetown guard in the closing seconds of that game and an unwise timeout called by one of Michigan's Fab 5.

It's not easy winning the national title. John Wooden won so many in his day because there were far less teams in the tournament, he got to play the first rounds always in the west, and there were no one and done players back then....he kept Alcinder, Walton, etc, all the way to their senior season. And he also was fortunate to have a rich sugar daddy in Sam Gilbert, plus very lax NCAA rules compared to today.

There'll be no more UCLA type dynasties.

Nah, that wasn't me. I wasn't that obnoxious, even though I wanted to be. :lol2:

I agree with you on how difficult it is to win the NCAA basketball tournament, as it is in today's format.

I have always taken exception to UK fans who discount the accomplishments of John Wooden and the UCLA Bruins. The man won 10 titles in twelve years, including seven in a row. It is easily the most unprecedented dominance in team sports. Yet, every discussion of UCLA's success in college basketball, with most UK fans, is underscored with some reference to Sam Gilbert. John Wooden was arguably the greatest coach of all time.....any sport.

By the way, from birth I have been the biggest UK fan. The difference in me and most UK fans is I have been able to give proper credit to the amazing accomplishments of John Wooden and the UCLA Bruins. What they did from 1964 to 1975, as The Professor says above, will never be equaled.

He's started the last few games hasnt he?

Nope

UK got outplayed and Cal got out coached yesterday. Great effort by IU. They deserved it. Cats never got in a grove on offense and seemed outta sync. Rotation seemed odd too. Willis never got his confidence back after the injury and Cal not starting him.

Yeah and why?

90% of this thread makes me hate the uk fan base.

Had a family celebration going on in Louisville yesterday so I had the misfortune of watching the game with my daughter (IU grad), middle son(brainwashed early on by his Hoosier cousins) and youngest son (U of L student who loves UK misery). It was not pretty. My kids are mean.

UK just seemed out of sorts the entire game on both offense and defense. IU also was not going to be denied.

I drank my self to sleep last night thinking the end must be near. But alas, when I woke the sun was still where it's supposed to be and it's just another day. I had a bad feeling about this game so the end result wasn't much of a surprise. IU has a solid team and UK has had to rely on two players to win the game for them all season, it's almost impossible to win the NCAA tourney like that, even in a down year for college basketball.

Congrats to @Bench and the Hoosiers! When I watched them earlier in the season their defense was suspect but they could score with anyone. From what I seen yesterday their defense has came a long way, IMO if they can play with the defensive intensity they have yesterday throughout the tournament they have a good shot at winning it all. I'll be pulling for them the rest of the way, they were underseeded and tossed into the toughest region on top of that. As much as I dislike SOME of their fans, I gotta pull for them, they have been a pleasant surprise in an otherwise bad year of college basketball.

I'm happy I will never have to worry about AP not showing up for a big game again.

Sam Gilbert has been mentioned in association with UCLA and Coach Wooden. Most high profile teams have a Sam Gilbert type association with someone and in many cases, a network of Sam Gilbert's. Don't be naive enough to think there's not a Sam Gilbert in your favorite program, no matter who you support.

How is it that Marcus Lee has just completed his 3rd year playing for UK and has never developed a shot? He is all alley-oops and follows. He cannot make a basket beyond 4 feet. What does he work on in the off season? By all accounts he is a great kid but this part of his game just baffles me.
