Lack of competition and a captive market are increasing the plans also. Doctors, Hospitals and consumers were all against the ACA...the only people for it were the insurance companies.

I'd love to have a business in which every American was forced to buy from me and I only had limited competition...you could charge what ever you wanted...which they are.

The ACA will cause healthcare to be the next economic bubble to burst...then our government overlords will step in with the next steps to socialized medicine...which was IMO the point of ACA in the first place.

Unless competition is truly opened up and some of the red tape and administration hassles that are driving up administration cost for hospitals and doctors are eliminated, no one will be able to afford health insurance in the next 5 to 10 years.

I agree with this 100% but none of the pols that pushed ObamaCare down our throats except John Yarmuth had the stones to say so. I pretty much despise Yarmuth and his politics but at least he was honest when he said that ObamaCare was the first step to single payer.

I'm on an employer play. My share of the premium hasn't really changed ($60 per pay check or $120 a month) but the co-pays for ER and specialists have almost doubled and I now have a 20% annual deductible (capped at 2K) that I have to pay. I'm much less likely to go to the doctor now then I was before. Dang shame I don't need birth control pills though.

The plan for my company was seeing double digit increases every year until the ACA. Two years ago we had a small increase. Last year we had a small decrease. These rates are not subsidized by the government. I don't claim that my experience is universal, but for my company it has been great. A nonprofit board I sit on saw an eight percent decrease for coverage last year. By the way, just change my screen name to resident ACA supporter.

I heard a presentation on the state of health care this week. One big factor in cost according to him is the reduction by the government in what they pay in Medicare reimbursements. These health providers are probably trying to make up that shortfall from consumers.

He further stated that Obamacare is not going away. Even if a Republican is elected president the Senate will most likely be split in such a way that it will prevent elimination of Obamacare. He said this next Senate election favors Democrats gaining seats.

I believe almost everyone thinks Obamacare needs to be changed.I wish everyone would focus on fixing it and stop wasting time and energy on saying they will eliminate it

How do you keep cost down....

Delay mammograms till 50.

This topic keeps coming up. Its obvious that this is a key agenda item to get cost under control.

Expert panel: Mammograms are most worth it for women 50-69 | Health | Kentucky.com

Here is a paragraph I bet will be found over and over again until the standards become doing these test at 50 instead of 40.

Mammograms give many false alarms, leading to unnecessary and costly follow-up tests. They also find many cancers that never would have threatened a woman's life, and many cancers prove fatal no matter how soon they are found. As treatments improve, the value of tests to find the disease early shrinks.

Mrs. BGC was taken back somewhat by the above statement.

With centeralized control of the system and pressure to keep cost down the 'test-or-let-them-die' issue will keep coming up.

Is your company self insured? My company is and this year we saw reductions for the first time in 18 years. It was 100% due to claims being down last year. 2 years ago we started a wellness plan and it seems to be paying off.

I hope it works out for your company. I know of a large law firm in Cincinnati a few years back that was self-insured and it was going great. Then one of the attorneys had very premature triplets and everything related to that put the firm in financial peril. It only takes one major hit like that to create a serious problem.

We are big enough that isn't a major concern.

No we aren't. We are a small company that was getting killed buying insurance until the ACA. There are things that need to be fixed, but the ACA is a net good. If we could fix a few of the problems, difficult in the current situation, it would get better.

What would you change?

I can only speak for myself and for what I read and I KNOW that I'm much less likely to go to the doctor now then I used to be because I know I'm going to have to pay the first 2 grand out of pocket. I know my overall cost for healthcare has gone up and I know that the politicians that pushed this on us said that wouldn't happen. The A stands for Affordable right? Right now I can't afford to get sick. But boy if I needed birth control pills...

If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor...If you like your plan you can keep your plan...the ACA will be deficit neutral...the ACA will save the average American family $2,500 per year...

How soon we forget the ACA lies...and they were lies, not mistakes. Gruber admitted as much...ugh...

Someone is going to pay for all out of work, too lazy to work, and illegals.

Shame it's the middle class with kids who is going to hurt the most. The ones who struggle to actually work for their money.

I'm ready for the guillotine to go to DC and start at the WH then Congress and to the Clintons.
