As fast as I drive on the interstate is the exact opposite of how slow I drive in the neighborhood. I crawl and catch crap from my family.

 

My brother from another mother...exact same for me.

 

I get crap around town all of the time...wife accelerates like a Top Fuel Dragster and stops at the last second. I drive smooth and steady. I replace her brakes about 3 to 1 as often as mine.

 

Interstate I'm between 7-12 over...on two lanes no more than 5 over. I use CC when ever possible.

You sound like my uncle lol. He always said that writing speeding tickets was a waste of time unless they were driving well over the limit. He said writing tickets to people driving 10-15 over was pointless because they would just pay the fine and continue driving at the same speeds.

 

My father in law wouldn't let his men write speeding tickets between 5 a.m. and end of their shift (unless extreme case)...said he didn't believe in giving people trying to get to work a hard time.

One of my best friends' brother is a police officer, and I have another friend who married a police officer. Both said on the expressway, they generally only ticket for 15+ over the posted speed limit unless things are really congested, in which case they drop down to 10+. City streets they said it's somewhere between 5+ and 10+, depending on the road, and zero tolerance in school zones while the lights are flashing.

 

Day to day, I generally hang out around 10 over on the expressway, and on long trips, that makes it up a little closer to 15 over.

 

Also, on long trips I'll use cruise control if there is someone else in the car with me making conversation or something...but I never use it if I'm driving alone or if my passengers are asleep. Keeps me much more alert to not have it on.

70mph Interstate - between 70 and 72. Fast enough for me. If I need to get there earlier, I'll leave earlier.

I use my cruise just as soon as I can set it. For me, 71 mph on the interstate. I'm all about trying to get the best gas mileage I can out of my 5 speed 2010 Focus. I have found when I go faster than 71 on the interstate it seems to really start digging into my gas mileage. I have gotten better than 42 mpg doing this, which also includes slowing down when the limit goes down to 65-55 around cities, etc.

do you normally travel at and do you use cruise control?

 

For me, 74 and yes. And 74 assumes the speed limit is 70. Otherwise I do five over.

For a 70 MPH zone - set to 79 on the speedometer. But speedometer is about 3 higher than radar speed and we know that.

 

Unless more is needed to keep up with traffic. Not so much in Kentucky. But was in Alabama a few weeks ago and it seems that if you have a no-restrictor plate super-speedway in your state everyone seems to to drive like they have no restrictor plate.

It depends entirely on what time i am on the interstate, what time i need to be there and if i might be late.

 

I have made Louisville to Hazard in less than 3 hours before. By the same token I have had Ashland take me over 3 hours. Point being it is entirely situational.

 

Having spent a ton of time on the interstates and highways in KY over the last 3 years I will say that I am more likely to speed on the interstate than on the old KY highway system. The cops on those are much more aggressive about ticketing .

Speed limit is 55 usually 60

Speed limit 70 then I go between 72-74

If I'm "in town" (25) only 2-5 mph especially in the river cities. Might stick to 20 in Bellevue due to those "entitled pedestrian cross walkers." In a 35 zone I'm 5-7 mph over. Once I hit the interstate I'm 10-15 over with the exception of the "known" speed traps where I'll re-visit 5-7 over mode.

 

The fastest I have ever driven was 125 mph up I-71 between Red Bank and Montgomery Rd. exits. Traffic was sparse and I felt "entitled." A Bavarian Motor Works vehicle brought out the inner adrenaline junky in me. That only happened once and thankfully no jail or ticket. I've never encountered a police officer in that stretch in 27 years of driving.

 

How about you all. What was the fastest you have driven?

CC at 78 if 70; 73 if 65; On city streets in Covington I go the speed limit and not 1 mph over.
