I long for the days when nobody cares and you can just live your life without "coming out" and it being a big deal.

I think he has almost guaranteed himself of not being drafted.

Given the number of complete sociopaths in the NFL, GMs will always draft and sign a guy they think can play, regardless of anything else.

The commissioner's office will pressure each team to make sure Sam is drafted. If no team drafts him, it will be a PR disaster for the NFL.

I don't, I think he will be drafted. Not sure where he should be as stated some say he is a little undersized, but I expect him to get drafted and to get a ton of coverage. Hopefully everyone can let him just be a football player, but his story will get ran into the ground. He'll almost get covered as much as Tebow at least for a while.

I feel pretty confident that he'll get drafted but this could move him from the top to the bottom of the first round.

I just find it ironic that he picked this moment to get up the courage to come out of the closet and say "I am not ashamed of who I am." I think this revelation may help him, think of the positive publicity an nfl owner would receive for taking a stand for human rights.

 

As I am watching ESPN I keep hearing the field reporters use the word "ignorance" and calling anyone who is uncomfortable with his orientation an "ignorant person."

 

He pretty much copied Jason Collins' "revelation" from a few year ago. Age, race, gender, followed by "and I am Gay" Look it up, the quote is almost identical.

 

And neither of those players are considered elite. They may be more well known for being gay than being outstanding professional athletes.

I'm wondering if he thought it would come out in the combine or his pro day and he wanted it to be revealed to the public on his terms.

Jason Collins came out when he did because he knew he was going to get cut and was trying to extend his 15 min of fame. Sam is doing it before he's even in the show, so much more respect towards Sam than Collins.

In 10 years players will not find it necessary "to come out" and it will not be a big deal to most people that a player is gay. That is just the way it is.

I don't think the players, especially the younger ones, will have a problem with it. I do think some of these old, crusty owners may have a problem with it. It takes a lot of courage for a very good player to come out before be is on a team. Could have cost himself a lot of money.

I was just thinking about how Teo pretty much flew under the radar all season. And that was one of the most fascinating stories I've ever heard of.

Gay player in an NFL locker room = distraction in the eyes of many NFL execs, I'm thinking. Considering he is not a top prospect and a bit of a tweener in terms of position (outside backer or defensive end), I think teams will avoid Sam.

 

If he goes undrafted, it is solely based on Sam being gay, IMO.
