Michael Sam, Missouri Draft Prospect Comes Out

Featured Replies

I will say I was intrigued all weekend awaiting when Sam would be drafted. He seems like a good dude and I am rooting for him to make it.

Michael Sam: I should've been drafted in the first three rounds - CBSSports.com

To put it in perspective, the other AP All-American Defensive End was Jackson Jeffcoat of Texas. He went undrafted. Just because you have accolades and recognized at the highest level in college football, it does not guarantee you will be a draft day selection. Sam was always considered at-best a mid-round prospect that dropped the ball at the combine. He improved at his Pro Day, but that also had to do with his ceiling being so low from his combine performance.

How long before the non-football world builds up a head of righteous outrage over the "draft snub?"

Well, it's been over 48 hours, and if it hasn't happened by now, I'm guessing, it ain't gonna happen. The real issue is if he has a really good camp/preseason and doesn't make the team. Then you may see some people speak up. But otherwise, it wasn't much of a surprise that he was drafted so late, and it wouldn't have been a surprise had he not been drafted. There's no real argument anyone can make that he was "snubbed"

There was some twitter reaction, but that would have come had he been a top 20 pick. Yesterday in USA Today the lead story in the sport's section was headlined "Sam had to wait too long to be drafted" or something along those lines. His sexuality being the reason he dropped.

To answer your question, JS, I think you might get more of a reaction if/when he is cut and does not make it in the league.

I figured with Sam the one saying it first, the non-FB world would would then jump on it, using the Dolphins player's tweet as evidence.

He had a very solid collegiate career. But he runs like his shoes are still in the box. Not gonna cut it in the league IMO. I'll be shocked if he makes the roster, even more shocked if he sees the field.

Definitely a tweener, and with his speed he's going to have trouble playing in space and getting to the QB. The Rams are deep at that position as well. He's a long shot at best to make the 53 man roster.

I am not a fan of Sam's at all. I do not in any way agree with his lifestyle choice.

How does that affect his ability as a football player? Or more importantly, how does that affect whether he is a good human being or not (which I don't know if he is or isn't...he could be a complete jerk)?
