Ah, the skeptic in me thinks there's an angle. I understand the plight and perhaps how stupid it might be to announce it now.
February 10, 201412 yr I don't believe so. He was a 5th year, redshirt senior. So while a little old, nothing too out of the ordinary. These guys are not signed for 10 year deals anyways. I was thinking one might use it as an "excuse" not to draft him?

February 10, 201412 yr Coming out has hurt his draft position......If a team is choosing between Michael and another player that grade out pretty much equal, my guess is they go with the other player.....don't think most teams want to be first to draft a known gay player. I do think he will be drafted, just down a few positions from what could have been.

I Watching Bettis and someone else during my lunch and they said when looking at an equal pick or a new coach trying to implement a new defense will not want the media circus that will come with him.
February 11, 201412 yr Would he create more of a circus than Incognito? If he could play for the whole season at Missouri with his teammates and coaches knowing he was gay, would you not think that more mature NFL players and media-savvy coaches could handle the situation?
February 11, 201412 yr Prior to this announcement he was going to be drafted based on the merits of his talent on the field. I'd like to think he is still going to be drafted based the same said talent. However, you can't tell me GMs, owners, team leaders, players won't change their perspective of him. One, he didn't have to do this. He assumes more risk by doing so and may have lost value since organizations don't want the media circus which will follow. I'm with the prior poster who longs for the day this is not an issue anymore since it's no ones business in the first place who folks sleep with and how. Last time I checked, sexual preference, hasn't been a pre-req determining value in a draft pick. Let's hope for everyones sake it remains that way! Five years from now I really don't care to hear the following press conference snip it, " Hello I'm _____________and I'm a lover of __________. February 11, 201412 yr I guess I am not fully understanding the draft value dropping. That doesn't change any potential distraction with the media circus. If he is drafted in the 5th round as opposed to 3rd, it is not as if less people are going to check-in on Sam? Am I missing something with that?
February 11, 201412 yr Ok, I have a problem with this. He tells people at MIZZ he is gay in August but does not tell his parents until it's all over the news. Not only that, he tells his dad in a text message, are you kidding me? Shouldn't he discussed this with his parents before coming out to the public? February 11, 201412 yr Who ever drafts Sam, is also getting a circus with the pick. It's on ESPN every 30 mins., in todays USA newspaper it's on page 1A, 2A, 10A, 1C, 4C, and 5C. The team who does will have distractions.

February 12, 201412 yr I am 100% supportive with Mr. Sam's lifestyle choice. I have no issues with people being gay. I have family and friends who are gay. What I do have an issue with, is how this lifestyle seems to be shoved down our throats and when someone who disagrees with it, speaks up, they are ridiculed to no end (Phil Robertson-only to use a celebrity example). Nobody can convince me that this story "NEEDS" to be front page on ESPN, front page on CNN, front page on Yahoo, and on E60. Like I said, I support him 100% in his lifestyle choice. But I do understand that some people do not believe in this because of their faith and who they are, which should be OKAY TOO! If we are talking about equal rights for everybody, but were forcing someone else to be okay with homosexuality, how is that equal rights? Let Mr. Sam live his life and be happy and let others who disagree, live their lives and be happy, and don't try to force someone else's lifestyle down their throat.
