He will get drafted. His teammates have known since August when he came out to his teammates. According to interviews his teammates pretty much already knew and weren't surprised. As far as the timing goes there are reports that scouts and others have known for awhile and that it was going to get reported. The idea was he did the interview to cut it off before itcoming out.

 

The bottom line in the NFL is does this guy help us win.

Jason Collins came out when he did because he knew he was going to get cut and was trying to extend his 15 min of fame. Sam is doing it before he's even in the show, so much more respect towards Sam than Collins.

Which is why I think the kid announced it when he did. I think it helps his chances of playing, positive publicity if you draft him, and bigotry if you don't

It takes some serious brass to come out and I respect that. But he did it at a weird time IMO. He was a role player who knew he would be a long shot to get another contract. I did kind of word my original post bad. I meant to say he knew his time was coming to the end in the NBA, so he wanted to get it out there before he was not resigned. Now Sam on the other hand is taking a huge risk, putting his financial future in jeapordy, that takes even more courage IMO.

I was just thinking about how Teo pretty much flew under the radar all season. And that was one of the most fascinating stories I've ever heard of.

I think that is a fair question. My only answer is that is was about to be announced by the media or whomever and he wanted to get ahead of it. I guess the follow-up to that could be, "Ok. So, why did you have to announce it?"

I wonder if he is drafted by an NFL team after this revelation?

 

I am confident he'll be drafted.

Are you being serious? If he is drafted? Save yourself the months of wondering, he will be.

 

Even though he is not that good? Obviously a D-1 player is better than I ever was, but he is not considered by anyone to be an elite defensive player.
