LRCW
The two sides avoid arbitration. That leaves only Homer Bailey.

HammerTime
2 years $11.5 Million. That's a great deal. Shocked he didn't want more.
I gotta go to work
That's a great deal. Shocked he didn't want more. He filed for arbitration at $4.7 million, the Reds countered at $4.15M. So the Reds bought out two years. He will be arbitration eligible for the final time after 2014, and hit free agency after 2015.

spindoc
That's a bargain, considering he's gonna win the Cy Young this year. Yeah, I said it.

I gotta go to work
If he has another year similar to last year he would have gotten 10M in arbitration next year. No doubt. Smart move by the Reds. I predict he will have a very large contract when 2016 rolls around. One hundred..

Yeah, it's gonna be hard for the Reds to keep him if he keeps getting better.

Flotsam
The leverage the Reds have is to sign Latos to a long term deal with big money stretched out over an extended period of time before he is free agent eligible. (See Votto and Bruce) The Reds give up the pre-free agency discounted years in return for locking him up. Latos would take less over time in return for eliminating the possibility that an injury takes him out before he gets to test the free agency waters. Castellini has been masterful in locking up the crown jewels. (As compared with Mike Brown who will squeeze every last cent out of the bargain years and start to negotiate with his free agents when they can shop the rest of the NFL)
