Obviously you aren't following along so I'll say it again but in consecutive sentences.

 

This team is compromised of the results of the votes of the coaches who actually took the time to send their votes in. By no way is this team a representation of THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE COMMONWEALTH. I thought the point about this team being a result of the 110 coaches who actually voted was already made. And for the record, I think this team is a poor representation of the best players in the commonwealth but if only half of the coaches in the state actually voted well as I said in a previous post.......there you have it.

You won't find a more thought out All State team in this state and unlike the other All State teams every single person on this website has an opportunity to nominate and state their case for their nominee.

Very true. There is always hiccups. I just feel like there will be less with the BGP team because of the process to pick that team.

Just because your going to a D1 school doesn't make you an All State player in my book. There are a lot of really good high school football players that are not D1 players. Alot of that is based on projection and potential. Kinda like how the Heisman doesn't mean your going to be drafted 1st.

 

A D1 Coach whose job depends on his recruiting may tend to be somewhat more objective and go after the best players, whom I would think, should be All State.

Can we all agree that both the CJ and AP have both used a poor process to select "all state" teams? Clearly both teams are horribly flawed, and for any entity to publish such a list knowing that the process has failed is bad journalism. Both the AP and the CJ have gone to courts at the highest levels representing themselves as the last line of integrity in society. The overseers of government, big business, societal rights and wrongs, and of course political correctness. .....And then they publish this garbage.

 

Shame on you. An apology is owed by both for publishing what they both knew to be horribly inaccurate information.

 

The built in defense is that we let the coaches vote and merely reported what they voted, or it is a representation of the media who covered the sport. However, they had to know how horribly inaccurate the result was, yet added their own editorial information (Player profiles), and then published it under their own name.

I was thinking the same thing with respect to the journalistic integrity in publishing this team. I don't mean to be an extremist but I would like to hear a response from someone at the C-J - Jason Frakes and/or Steve Jones - about the decision to publish this team. As informed as those two are about Kentucky HS football, surely they knew, prior to publishing, that there would be many questions, if not an outcry, about this team. I think some explanation or opinion as to what happened would be in order. There is no doubt, at least on BGP, that this team has engendered the most negative response of any of the all-state teams published so far.

If the list is flawed, you can only hold accountable the people casting the ballots, not the ones counting them. If there were 110 votes, that's barely half the total number of coaches statewide. You're never going to get them all, but given that this is the only all-state team for which coaches can vote, the number of those who participate should certainly be higher. As long as it isn't, you can't help but have some deserving players omitted.

If I were the Courier Journal, I would specifically brand this as the Kentucky Coach's All Star Football Team. I would not want my name on this as the Courier Journal Kentucky All Star Team.

 

I do like the long list of names included with all the Honorable Mentions. Although, when you see so many clearly deserving names not included in that long list it does become embarrassing to the selectors of the team as well as the Courier Journal.

When ESPN puts out a college basketball ranking, they don't just email the coachs and post their replies. We may not always agree with them totally, but they are typically pretty close. Why...because they put in the time to get it right. The CJ is a respected media outlet that is not even close! If it's truly just reaching out to coaches and putting a list tegether from only the ones that reply, then that is pitiful from a media outlet that size. Call it what it is and explain how the list is tallied!

Let a non Highlands fan be the first one to say ...WHAT THE HECK? This team is so lacking in Northern Kentucky players it loses credibility. If I counted right, there are 5 players from Northern Kentucky named.

 

There has to be some explanation. McCoy is AP first team all state and he isn't even named on this team. Twenty-one QB's are named on this team and McCoy is not one of them. This team makes the AP team look like geniuses at work.

All the more reason to call it the "Kentucky Coaches" team. When the coaches have their name on the product, they might have more interest. You might even get some peer pressure between coaches to vote so they don't get embarrassed when the team is announced.

If you ask the coaches to vote, then once those coaches realize you're going to change the results anyway, the number of coaches voting would drop from 110 to something closer to 10. It's hard enough to get them to participate as it is, and they'd have no reason to if they didn't think their votes counted or were being taken seriously.
