Somehow I believe the kids are better at channeling this kind of disappointment than the fans and parents are. My kid is an offensive tackle. He has never received any post season acknowledgement. He has blocked for MVPs and never been recognized. All he does is move on to the next level and immediately start. And no one looks forward to lining up across from him in practice. If he started getting this kind of recognition, I wonder, would he be as driven?

It is three pages but only two days, one of them being Christmas when most folks have better things to do than get on BGP. Some people (me included) were really shocked at the absurdity of the CJ team but did not see it on here until late yesterday. That is why some are just jumping on it now. Like others have said before, this does not affect me in the least and I am done with the subject. Happy Holidays to all!

No clue. This year is the first year I have ever heard a number but this team is probably the most controversial team in quite some time. I'd rather see who voted than the actual number of voters.

It may be time to consolidate to ONE All-State team. I suggest that a committee be formed(former coaches). Each of the 8 regions be represented. Current coaches can submit highlights of their nominated players. The committee would review and select ONE official All-State team. This would be a huge undertaking and one that would require time and expertise. Who would Head the committee? Don't know but, it would be someone who cares about the integrity of Kentucky HS football. I will go out on a limb and suggest that one such person exists in each region. The 1st guy that comes to mind would be Mike Glaser. Well respected and knowlegable. It is time that a neutral party makes these choices. This is only way to make award credible imo.

The only thing one consolidated all-state team gets us is one team to cry about.

 

We're looking for a solution that simply does not exist.

 

High school coaches and writers have ZERO chance of actually knowing who's legit and who is just a stat sheet stuffer. How does the writer from Paducah know how good Mitch Dee at Highlands is? You think he's watching tape? You think he's QUALIFIED to watch tape?

 

How do we suggest QBs be evaluated? Passing? Do we modernize it and look at total offense instead? Do we consider the system they're in?

 

How do we eliminate the human element of it? Coaches want kids they like to be recognized either selfishly for the coach or because they really like the kid(s). That is NEVER going to change.

 

Heck, in NKY you have players NOT get selected to the top 10 because of Dale.

 

We can cry about this until we have no more tears. It's NEVER getting to the point where it's "legit."

Absolutely agree!

You're talking degrees of drama. AP has drama. Commonwealth has drama. BGP's will have drama.

 

 

The degree of "drama" on this one broke the meter. It isn't even close. I don't get into the marginal discussions at all on these teams because they are so subjective. But the omissions on this team are numerous and well beyond marginal discussion. And now I am done ... as "Big Fat" would say, "This time, I am being honest with you."

Best advise I can give it to just accept it for what it is.

 

Personally I think the AP writers for the most part try to select the best high school football players for their team and the coaches for the most part don't. But as Clyde pointed out, the AP writers don't and can't see every center, every QB, every etc in the state before they make their selections. Heck is my nephew, Mitch Dee, the best center in the state? Hell, I have no clue because I didn't get to see every center. He was the best one that I saw this year, but I can't honestly and logically conclude he's the absolute best center in the state.

 

Furthermore, the AP writers selections are influenced by what they see in the state games. A lot of the AP writers attend and get to watch the 12 teams play and make assessments of the players. If a player is being touted by an AP writer, say from N. Ky., and the other AP writers get the opportunity to see the kid play in a state game and the kid has a great game, human nature is probably going to cause some of those AP writers to vote for that kid over a kid on a team the AP writers never got to see because that team didn't make it to state. So that somehat unfairly skewers the process in favor of the kids making the state game. But I do think the AP writers at least try to put the best players on their team and for that I give them credit.

I just saw on Facebook that the C-J doctored this list quite a bit. Apparently had they not doctored it then James Quick would have been 3rd team All State. As a result the C-J is likely coming up with a new process and the days of coaches picking the C-J All State team is likely over.

 

Jason Frakes(BG alumni) is catching heat(playfully) about the lack of BG players on the team. That was his response on Facebook. And yes, part of the reason for my defense of the C-J is because of Jason Frakes. Us Purples stick together always and his recent comments prove me right. It's the coaches' fault. .
