Opposed to changing results, if I were the Courier Journal I would have threshold numbers of votes required (65%?) before I would publish the team. I would have threshold required numbers by region and statewide. I would work with coaches associations to make sure enough votes are cast. If a region has not cast enough votes, get in touch with the contact at that region's coaches association, tell him you have not received enough votes and ask for him to reach out to members to get their votes in. If it takes till February to get the team published, so be it.

All the more reason to call it the "Kentucky Coaches" team. When the coaches have their name on the product, they might have more interest. You might even get some peer pressure between coaches to vote so they don't get embarrassed when the team is announced.

 

They make it pretty clear where the votes come from in the first paragraph of the story:

Who should be taken off it ? I know Eli Wilson and Zack Katzman from Graves are very good players and are as good as just about anyone in the state with the exception of a few.

OK, was wrapped up in Xmas yesterday and I am glad. I just looked at the team for the first time.

 

Three thoughts, even before reading BGP that popped into my mind.

 

1. Wow, NKy got the screw job!

2. Only one Louisville kid on the first three teams that is non-Trinity? Bloomfield on second team? No PRP (made it to finals), no. St. X, no Eastern, no Central (won a state title). Now, that is pretty amazing.

3. I can only imagine Bob White - who did this team for 40 something years - is very embarrassed.

Folks, if you're that bent out of shape because kids from your schools weren't named to the C-J team; I suggest that you go to your coach and find out if he voted. If not, I'm guessing that it just wasn't a priority.

 

The problem is a lot of the coaches who did vote all voted the same players. It's pretty obvious to see that. I remember years back when you would read the All-State team they would have a little disclaimer saying votes that were "block" votes were not counted towards this All-State team.

I have seen a lot of players on this list whose names were passed around on ListServ by their coaches.

True. Yet 2 of the 6 state championship teams were from NKY.

Not the rest of the states fault that some coaches can't get their act together. If you don't pay the water bill it gets shut off without poking or proding.

You can have the good hs players and I'll take the D1 players and beat you every time. Do you really think players going to D1 schools aren't good players? Insanity.

 

No ill take the best players in high school right now reguardless if they are D1 or not today. All I 'm saying is some kids get D1 looks because of their size and not necessarily how they performed. Those kids do not deserve All State even they are said to be D1.

As for the the selection process, I'll follow Momma's Rule and keep those thoughts to myself.

Maybe the Courier Journal needs to ask AD's for help when a coach fails to vote? My biggest complaint about any coach that didn't vote - players bust their rear for you for 4 years and you can't take a half an hour to fill out a ballot? This does mean something to players and their families.

Also recognition for the program, coach and players. This just does not make sense.

That is what is said about Belfry each year also when they go to the finals and sometimes win and get maybe one kid selected.....welcome to the "they don't care" club!!

I would be shocked if they weren't but it would explain a lot if they weren't.
